Has Jol Gone Already?

Rumours flying all over the place are saying that Jol has gone already. Could be rubbish but could be true. But also with those rumours is the idea that Jol has been fired with no one in place! Ramos is apparently mulling the deal over - what happens if he turns us down? Harry Redkrapp? This is a quote from a top Spurs Forum, which holds weight -

Martin Jol and Tottneham Hotspur chairman Daniel "Two Bob" Levy meet tomorrow for showdown talks according to almost anyone who has ever claimed to be an ITK on FTL and COYS. At the meeting it is going to be made clear that Jol has lost the boards support hoping Jol will resign, thus reducing the compensation fee Jol would be entitled to if he was sacked. It appears that Levy doesn't want to sack him as it would cost him some cash and would be a PR disaster. If Jol refuses to walk, which I hope he does, it will be interesting to see if Levy does fire him.Ramos of Sevilla apparently is ready to come and if Levy does do away with the most successful league manager for 20 years I hope he is in place. Another f*ck up along the lines of the Hoddle sacking would rip the heart out of the club and other names banded around like Harry Redknapp just doesn't bare thinking about. The way Jol has been treated is clearly a disgraceful knife in the back job from the Spurs board with lies being leaked to the press. The latest piece of garbage out there is that he hates Berbatov - utter nonsense but part of the smear campaign by our dirty board. I never liked Paul Kemsley on the apprentice - came across as a complete tosser on the show and appears to be one in real life.

benfica manager sacked yday after 1 league game ... anything can happen..i reckon jols gone ... after the amount of players they have bought, the board will be pissed, they need someone new.
Oh come on....Choose any year you want from 1987 onwards and with the debatable exception of 1991, you should recall that the quality of football and results was significantly inferior to the football and results under MJ. However despite this you seemingly believe that 3 games into a season, and following the spending of around £40 million pounds we should sack a loyal man who in my opinion has brought leadership and quality to a club that was rapidly becoming a laughing stock. Remember how happy everyone was when Gooner Graham was replaced by Glenn Hoddle. This was presumably done for the benefit of the club and achieved absolutly nothing except the wasting of cash on ageing players.Everyone, Spurs or not should have witnessed the various managerial appointments/disasters at Spurs. I am frankly amazed at any fans supporting the removal of one of the few decent managers we have been fortunate enough to appoint.

From Tottenham, very rare to hear this on the main site -

The Club is aware that there has been much speculation over the past few days in respect of our Manager, Martin Jol. As you know, the Club does not respond to speculation, but we do feel in this instance it is important to clarify the current position. Manager Martin Jol and Assistant Manager, Chris Hughton met with the Chairman, Sporting Director Damien Comolli and members of the Board today â discussions were held re-confirming our aims for the season, the development of the full potential of the squad and taking the Club forward.âWe have had two good, progressive seasons with fifth place finishes. I am an ambitious Chairman, we are an ambitious Club and we want Champions League football at White Hart Lane,â commented Chairman, Daniel Levy. âWe, the Board, owe it to the Club and the supporters to constantly assess our position and performance and to ensure that we have the ability to operate and compete at that level. We have made a massive investment in the squad and as a result we have the best squad of players this Club has had for over 20 years and they are equally hungry for success and silverware. For that we need our management and coaching standards to be of the highest quality such that players can fulfil their potential and we can compete with the best. We have discussed all of these expectations with Martin and he has confirmed to me today that he feels he is equipped with a squad and a determination to take on that challenge.â Martin added: âWe had a full and frank conversation and I fully understand the ambitions of the Club â they are the same as those of the supporters. He has put a lot of hard work into this Club and with the squad of players we have assembled, it is realistic that we should look to challenge for a top four position and I have assured him and the Board that that is what I shall aim for. âThe last two seasons we have finished fifth and this season we start with an even better team. So we should be optimistic. Yes, it is pressure to deliver, but that is what we managers should expect. Hopefully all the media will relax now â all I shall be concentrating on is each and every game.â

Betfair suggests his position has become slightly stronger. This morning it was 1/3 that he would be the first managerial change but has since drifted to 5/4.Betfair is rarely wrong seeing as it isn't a bookmaker but actual people betting against eachother, those with information soon take the good odds.Just like Harry Redknapp did when denying he'd rejoin Pompey, when he was 2/1 to do so, only for it to drift to 50/1 and then punted it at that price all the way down until he was appointed the new manager. £10 Million traded on Betfair about the Portsmouth job! 9 of it on Harry!

Jol is the best thing to happen to Spurs in my lifetime.3 games gone and all this nonsense was a joke, glad to see it has been cleared up for the meantime quite substancially. We will have our first team back soon enough, then lets see what kinda impacts Jol and the players can make. Then review it at the end of the season, its never about replacing managers after 3 games. We are on more points than Man Utd, wheres all this pressure on Fergie? Why Jol.....SMH

It's pretty clear the board have lined up Ramos as Jol's replacement. But the Spanish season kicks off soon, and I don't think Sevilla will let him leave until he sees out his contract (2008).I think we have the situation whereby if Spurs don't qualify for the Champion's League this season then Jol is out.It would allow us to keep our better players in that worst case scenario as well - Berbatov etc are more likely to give it 'one more year' under a new coach, rather than one that was brought in this season and failed.
