Hamann:'England can't pass a ball to save their life'

Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has criticised England's ability to retain possession ahead of tonight's friendly against Germany at Wembley.Hamann, who famously scored that last-ever goal at Wembley as England lost 1-0 to their old rivals, refused to speculate on whether England's key players were over-rated in their own country, though indicated that the general approach to football could be holding England back."People here deny that [players are over-rated], because of the international reputation of the Premier League," he told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung."It is certainly the most entertaining league in the world. Whether it is the best? Difficult to say. Apart from Michael Owen and David Beckham, no England player has played abroad, and that also is significant."In big tournaments the players often seem very tired and have big problems keeping hold of the ball. Being comfortable in possession of the ball is still not a priority in England even today."Hamann's take on the situation comes in the wake of his manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's short but sharp put-down of the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, from whom he was unable to coax such performances as Brazilian midfielder Elano has delivered so far this season."England didn't have an Elano. . . with a club you can buy players. If you are born Brazilian, it is in your DNA. I don't know why, but it's like that," the Swede said following the victory over West Ham on the opening day of the season.Hamman may not be at Wembley to leave a mark on the history of the new stadium, though his words will resonate loud enough should England once again fail to perform against a patched up German team.http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/22082007/58/...sh-passing.htmlThe Kaiser tells it like it is.

It says a lot that Sven puts Hamman straight in the Man City team. He is such an important player. He was the real reason Liverpool won the Champs League that night, he turned it around for them with his composure on the ball, good passing and solid tackling.

England need Turkish, italian or asian ballers to come up tru the youth system from the endz..... technique on lockdown
dont matter what your racial profile is. when you join an academy they teach you to play a certain way. if you dont conform you can go back to the street and do your tricks there.its not that english players cant do it. its just that other things such as physical condition, positioning, tackling and finishing are put ahead of these things

Guest Its Me Bitches

i know that certain way but skill and tricks are different to natural techniqueclose control, being comfortable on the ball, first touch and composure.... if you have these don't matter how your told to play you will always have it, its not really something that can be taught. Its a shame that those man are usually short and have a small build until a certain age....I reckon if i made a team of 16-21 year olds from ends... we could hit a pretty decent level of non league football within no time.
