Weren't that song meant to be aimed at Nas?
yep!
Why, what went on there?
"More cake, i take the crown off the so-called king of the townAnd lock it down"nas- affirmative action remixAt the time Big was seen as the guy who brought NY back with Raedy to Die and Junior Mafia, peeps where callin BIG the king of NY. Many saw that lyric as an indirect at BIG. So BIG dropped Kick in the Door (which was meant for Nas, Raekwon & Ghostface as well). Apparently Raekwon thought that when BIG came out he was biting Raekwons style and biting Nas, when he's says on his tarck "Shark Niggaz" about biting Niggas album covers, etc etc (Nas had him as a yute on illmatic, big had him as a yute on ready to die).Back in the day there was loads of indirect beefin and lines thrown about. Golden era of hip hop. BIG, Nas, Mobb Deep, and Wu tang were all fresh in the game and sending for eachother to try on establish who was really #1 in NY.Honstly I think Nas woulda dissed big back after Kick in the door if BIG was alive. I remeber Method Man sayin that it vexes him that all peeps in NY Hip Hop go on about BIG after he died as if they were tight and loved him off, but when he was alive most guys didn't like BIG and vice versa. As Meth said, at the time only he he featured on BIGs sh*t. It would of been a par to have man like Nas and Reakwon on his album even though only man like them could ramp with BIG lyrically. There was more internal beefin between NY rappers than the whole East coat West coast ting.

And to add to Big biting Nas, Ready To Die was him tryna make Illmatic
biggrin.gif
You dont believe? I swear you posted up the article on RWD.
I remember that article and I'm sure Illmatic was an 'influence' but to say he was trying to REPLICATE it, goes a lil' too far.Sonically and lyrically, it sounds NOTHING like Illmatic.
