To put it simply, they didnt. Theres no way that the amount of ships were able to enslave the whole of the West coast of Africa. They traded stuff like gunpowder with the tribal masters in exchance for slaves. That way they didnt have to fight with however many natives there were; they could just take their slaves then be gone.Money is the root of all evil (for both parties)
