spiderman
in short, whats on the face of this film???isit just graphics, 3D and visual appeal at the front with the story in the background? as good and ground breaking the visual techniques are, if this was the case then it wouldnt be breaking the mould because hollywood blockbusters are always pushed to follow that direction (looks cool but the story is very weak). Some are even pushed to the point where its pretty much CGI porn and this is the selling point, not the story (transformers 2).BUT, if the story is actually what engages people the most, above all the fancy film and visual techniques...then this movie would be different and something that we aint had in a very long time. it will probably be a big film anyways but if its the latter then it would definately be a landmark film which im hoping it is cos we havent had a strong classic made in a while. Guest Triple XXX
yea but think about it, its a $300m film, it HAS to be mainstream to make that money back u cnt make it some niche thing or make it some deep story coz most heads prob wont get itu gotta have the clichés and sh*t to draw heads in n allow them to follow it
spiderman
nobody is talking about it being a specialst or niche film. its costing all that much because of the visual effects and the 3D, that alone will draw people in.....im saying that alongside all that can they match it with a story that is just as sick and let that shine, rather then ride the coat tails of visual effects and exploit that while the story lurks in the background somewhere.i suppose its a bit much to expect them to turn over the hollywood formula on its head, but with jim cameron directing i do expect a decent story at least. revs
the story is full of cliche's but its done well. You are not going to find any amazing twists etc, its just a good popcorn movie. Its entertaining, nothing more. Stop trying to read into it so much. The selling point is that due to technology etc Cameron was able to realize his vision of Pandora. He effectively transported the viewer to another world that enabled you to (at most times) forget about the CG and just engage in the environment and its inhabitants. spiderman
like i said, decent story....i know the movie isnt focused around a dramatically different story but it would of made it a landmark film if it was because it would have the story and the visual appeal.still its definately a step up in film technology and i reckon ill enjoy it a lot anyways because i do like visually stunning films and sci-fi films in general. the decent story will prevent me from nit-picking lol. Tecnically that film was amazing but it was such hard work to watch because it had such bad pacing - and thats not even taking into account the wooden 2 dimensional acting. This made it hard to even remotely enjoy the film.

Guest R9
Good film.Where this film shines is the beautiful landscapes, innovative creature and envoriment design & breathtaking scenerySome of the characters are excellently done aswell, the female lead (cant rememebr her name) is done and acted very well the wonder of the film isn't in the battles and big explosions, its in everything else, the little details Also worth watching simply because its a big-budget film that points fingers at the current/previous US administration and thats not soemthing to be overlookedIts no Bladerunner but a very worthwhile film and definately something you should see at the cinema. Especialyl considering some guys went to see the likes of Transformers. As for the script, its not the best ever but I didn't expect it to be.Personally I just love that whole 'fantasy world' type sh*tand I have seen few films that have come as clsoe to perfecting it as this one has

J. Edgar
Just finished watching this and I can't help to think James Cameron got the inspiration from the Matrix, Braveheart & FernGully
