Christmas used to be called Saturnalia/Juvenalia and was a celebration of pagan winter solstice, catholics adopted and hid it's meaning. Valentines day was called Lupercalia and of course the catholics adopted it and changed it's meaning. Easter was a pagan fertility celebration for the babylonian god tammuz.
