Thats a good look for us stil, Steed Was one of our best players last season, so im a bit dissapointed about him leaving. I swear Chelsea offered 10 mill for Chimbo in January tho, which would make there offer about right, even though i would sell him for 2 mill.

SPURSMARK thinks Spurs have missed the boat on a couple of deals that could have strengthened the side significantly – leaving us with one massive weak link. While all the talk has been of £20m-plus deals in and out of White Hart Lane in recent weeks, many Spurs fans may not have noticed that two players who could have made a major improvement to our starting eleven have been transferred for a fraction of the figures being touted for the likes of Dimitar Berbatov or David Bentley. The fact that Spurs did not move for either Orlando Engelaar or Christian Poulsen should send a shiver down our spines. Not just because they were deals that Tottenham could have tied up with the minimum of fuss and not just because the teams that acquired these players could easily have been outmanoeuvred in the transfer market. The big issue is that by letting these defensive midfielders go elsewhere, Juande Ramos is sending out a signal that he is happy with those currently in that position. Anybody who watched Didier Zokora with their eyes and not rose-tinted glasses last season will have realised that this £8m fraud was a pathetic excuse for a holding player and the reason why our creaking defence was exposed so many times. If anybody can think of a good reason why a player in such a crucial position, who cannot pass, tackle, head, track players, get forwards, shoot or win physical contests against smaller players, can get in a team supposedly challenging for a top four spot then I would like to hear it. Tom Huddlestone gets plenty of stick for not using his physical attributes to maximum effect but at least there are signs of improvement with him, and of course he can pass the ball more than six yards without giving it away. Zokora did not score or claim a single assist in the league last term - there cannot be a player in the division who played as many times with such an abysmal record. Not that I am suggesting Huddlestone is the answer (or Teemu Tainio or Jamie O’Hara) but he is the best of a bad bunch. The bottom line is that if Ramos thinks that Zokora is better than an Engelaar (who joined Schalke for less than £5m) or Poulsen then we have found his Achilles heel. And if the fans can see it then it will not be long before opposition managers do too. Some most probably have already. After all, how many goals did we concede from 25-30 yards from our own goal – the area that Zokora is supposed to patrol and dominate – last season. They can’t all have been Paul Robinson’s fault. The final game of last season was a real eye-opener. Zokora v Javier Mascherano – a player I always believed was overrated. Not any more. The Argentinian midfielder ran the show, helping out his defence, stopping Spurs utilising their strong area behind the front man and charging forwards to devastating effect. Comparing him to our equivalent was laughable – they were leagues apart. I am not asking Spurs to pluck a Mascherano out of the sky but if we cannot spend £10m on a player to improve on Zokora then our transfer policy is all wrong. Rumour had it that Poulsen was the one player Ramos really wanted to bring with him from Sevilla when he arrived. Either his stock has dropped so much (that he got a transfer to Juventus for £7m!) that Ramos changed his mind or he has been convinced by Zokora’s displays since being at White Hart Lane. If the latter is the case then we truly have reason to fear for our goals against column this season and we can kiss goodbye to any hopes of dominating the the midfield against any Premier League side this season.
From TheProudCockerel, i pretty much agree with all his points. Whether we were in for Engelarr and Poulson is just speculation, but although Zokora can play OK now and again, a DM or holding midfielder is what we are still craving and badly need.

Always said Zokora never did the job properly. Feel much better seeing the guy at CBI don't see who we can bring in that would do a job, we need to find someone definantly. Doesn't even need to be able to pass that good, we got enough players that can do that. We need someone to win the ball and give it back to one of our players. Also, has to DEFO protect the back 4.

The manager doesn't want him."Roy Keane was a fantastic player and he is a very good manager."Younes has a lot of respect for him, but why would he go to Sunderland?"He doesn't want to go there."

AARON LENNON has insisted he is one player who is NOT leaving Tottenham. Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Paul Robinson are three high-profile players who have attracted serious interest from Premier League rivals. But Spurs flier Lennon, 21, laughs when he hears his name mentioned as another of the stars who will be leaving White Hart Lane in a massive shake-up by manager Juande Ramos. The England winger revealed: “There is no way I am leaving Tottenham. “I am settled here, I love the club and I feel my best form is yet to come. “There is absolutely no reason for me to go anywhere else as I want to make a real contribution towards taking Spurs forward. “The manager has never said a word to me about leaving — in fact it has been the opposite. “Whenever I’ve spoken to him, he has given me tremendous encouragement. His words have been a real boost to my confidence. “The manager has been right behind me since he came to the club and nothing has changed.” Tottenham have invested heavily in the White Hart Lane squad already. Luka Modric, who cost £16.6million, will provide midfield flair and £4.7m Giovani dos Santos is expected to be a big hit up front. As for the outs, striker Berbatov is expected to join Manchester United in a £25m deal, while fellow hitman Keane is on the brink of a £20m switch to Liverpool. But former Leeds man Lennon relishes the prospect of nailing down a first-team place despite the competition for places hotting up. He added: “The more quality players the manager signs, the better it is for everyone — the club and players. “We all respond to competition and I am no different. It’s all about improving yourself and the team. “No one can afford to stand still in football and I want to improve the whole time. “I particularly want to work on my consistency and the final product.” Lennon copped stick last season for his lack of consistency. But he had been pressed back into action ahead of schedule after undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage. He explained: “I had a tiny tear in my cartilage. It was straightforward surgery but it did set me back. “By the time I reached full fitness again, the other lads in the squad had moved on and were that bit fitter than me. “I was recalled to the side and I couldn’t really get into the flow. Some games were good, some not so good. “To be perfectly honest, I don’t think the Tottenham fans have seen the best of me yet. My best campaign so far was definitely the season I arrived from Leeds in 2005-06. “Defenders have also looked at how I play and they come up with plans to stop me. “I need to be a bit more inventive and develop with new ways of getting past them. I am trying to improve all the time. I must get better as I want to do well for Tottenham because they have been good for me.” Spurs clinched their UEFA Cup place by winning the Carling Cup but Lennon admits the team hit a bad patch after the 2-1 Wembley over Chelsea in February. That dodgy patch also cost Lennon his England place but he is convinced a recall will come when he regains his high level of performance. He added: “Mentally, I am very strong. “Any setbacks you get, you must be able to take. It is the same if you get criticised for how you play. You take it and get on with it. “As for England, a recall goes hand in hand with your club form — and that’s what comes first.”

There has been substantial speculation in respect of the futures of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, including press comment from both Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez. In response our Chairman, Daniel Levy has made the following statement:"Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players. It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid. "This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League (PL) rules. As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Manchester United. Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week. "The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct."Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the Club's permission. "I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence. This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively. "Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt."
