bex Posted January 29, 2008 Report Share Posted January 29, 2008 i want to read beyond ugly, the excerpts at the end of her first book seemed goodi recently read "from caucasia, with love", it was excellent, i'd thoroughly recommend it. it's about two mixed race sisters born to political activists in 1970's america. when all the race riots were happening, the whole family basically had to go on the run, one sister fleed to brazil with her black father and the other lighter skinned sister stayed in boston with her white mother, and was made to pass as white, given a new identity, etc. it's really interesting book.. i'm currently reading her second book "symptomatic"would also recommend "on beauty" by zadie smith, another really good read.. i preferred this one to white teeth. it's basically a story about two families, one in london and one in america, and how their lives become intertwined.
