TF S4DK Posted May 7, 2008 Report Share Posted May 7, 2008 Portsmouth have confirmed the FA Cup final will be Sol Campbell’s last match for the club, and they have earmarked Benfica stopper Luisao as his replacement.Pompey have not confirmed where Campbell is heading, but they have admitted that talks have already begun with Benfica for the signing of Luisao.The towering 6ft 5in centre back is a Brazil international, with 22 caps, and the 27-year-old tops Harry Redknapp’s wishlist.“The assessment of Luisao is very good,” revealed Portsmouth’s director of communications Gary Double in The Daily Express.“Campbell will leave and Luisao is Redknapp’s preference for the defence.“We have already spoken to Benfica and they have set the fee at £12million as a starting point for negotiations.”Luisao will not be joined by Tottenham’s Pascal Chimbonda though, with Redknapp ruling out a move for the unsettled full back.“He’s a right back and I’ve got the best right back in England. TF S4DK Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Share Posted May 7, 2008 Portsmouth have dismissed reports that the FA Cup final will be Sol Campbell’s last game for the club after the South Coast outfit’s director of communications was reported to have said it would be.Wednesday’s edition of the Daily Express quoted Gary Double as saying that the game at Wembley on May 17 would be the former Arsenal defender’s last for Pompey, but the club have reacted angrily to the article which also said they were lining up Benfica’s Luisao as a replacement.“I have been totally misquoted,” said Double in The News.“It is this club's policy not to discuss transfers.”Campbell joined Pompey from The Gunners in the summer of 2006 and has become a firm fans’ favourite at Fratton Park.
