Andrei Arshavin has denied reports he is set to sign for Chelsea and admits he is now unsure if he will leave Zenit St Petersburg this summer.Press reports suggested Zenit could be set to offer the 27-year-old forward to Chelsea as the Russian club look to balance the books following the €30m (£24m) capture of Danny from Dynamo Moscow. But Arshavin claims he has had no contact with Chelsea and admits he is surprised by the reports.“They say that I may be signing for Chelsea,” he told Sport. “That’s not something I was aware of.“There have been no negotiations with Chelsea – neither with myself nor with my agent.“I can say one thing: my agent is surprised about where this has all come from.”Meanwhile, Arshavin believes there is little hope of Tottenham signing him after the two clubs failed to agree a fee.“Tottenham have ceased negotiations. I now cannot say what the chances are that I will leave.“I do not know if I will be greatly saddened if I remain at Zenit. Only time will tell.” http://www.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Footb...acets/football/

Russia playmaker Andrei Arshavin's on-off summer move to Tottenham could be back on, BBC Sport understands.Spurs ended negotiations with Zenit St Petersburg 10 days ago after failing to agree on a fee for the 27-year-old.But the Russian side are believed to have re-opened talks after lowering their asking price, prompting a re-think from the Spurs hierarchy.Should he join, Arshavin would link up with Roman Pavlyuchenko, who will seal his move from Spartak Moscow by Friday.Tottenham agreed a fee for Pavlyuchenko at the beginning of the week, with the Londoners thought to be paying up to £12m for the 26-year-old striker. And by pairing him with Arshavin, Spurs will re-create the partnership that helped Russia storm so impressively to the semi-finals of Euro 2008 this summer. The news should also please Zenit manager d*ck Advocaat, who has already signed a like-for-like replacement in Danny from Dinamo Moscow for around £24m and who claimed Arshavin's ongoing links to Spurs have upset team morale this season. It is thought the pair's arrival will pave the way for Dimitar Berbatov to complete his "dream" move to Manchester United. The Bulgarian, 28, has repeatedly informed Spurs officials of his desire to move to the champions and he was left out of Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland last weekend because of a "lack of focus".Despite potentially outlaying as much as £30m for Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko, Spurs are thought to be close to bringing in two other signings this week. The first of those is Manchester City defender Vedran Corluka, whose move to the Londoners was called off at the last minute at the start of the month.City have since signed Belgium international Vincent Kompany from Hamburg and are now thought to be willing to allow the move. And Tottenham are also thought to be closing on a deal for Sporting Lisbon's highly-rated Portugal international midfielder Miguel Veloso. The 22-year-old, rated at around £15m, has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal in the past, but is believed to be keen on a move to Spurs, who are on the look-out for a defensive midfielder to compliment summer signings Luka Modric, David Bentley and Giovani dos Santos. However, reports suggesting Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will join Spurs appear to be wide of the mark, with his agent Arnold Oosterveer telling BBC Sport that he has had no contact from the Londoners regarding a move.

Andrei Arshavin's agent remains adamant that the player will move to England this season, even though the player will stay in Russia at least until January.Despite the summer-long speculation linking the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker with a move to Tottenham, no deal could be brokered before the summer transfer window slammed shut on Monday evening. However, Arshavin's representative Dennis Lachter is confident that a deal could be concluded that would bring Arshavin to England in the January transfer window."The Zenit president Aleksandr Dyukov contacted me and informed me that Andrei would be staying at the St Petersburg club," Lachter explained to Russian newspaper Sovetsky Sport."But Dyukov said that if Tottenham continue to show an interest in buying Arshavin, then we will be able to return to the issue in January of next year, when the winter transfer window opens."Lachter also explained why Tottenham and Zenit failed to reach an agreement on Arshavin's transfer during the summer."The reasons for the total refusal to sell the footballer were the following: Zenit would not allow the transfer fee for Arshavin to be paid over a number of years."Plus, Tottenham decided to make a renewed attempt to buy Andrei too late, at the very end of the Russian transfer window. So if the St Petersburg club had sold the forward, they would have had no time to replace him."One bright spot for the player is that he will remain in the spotlight for the next few months.Arshavin will have the opportunity to impress on the big stage as Zenit St Petersburg will begin their maiden UEFA Champions League campaign in September, with Arshavin expected to play a key role.

Dan Ashcroft - Spurscommunity Re. 1 September - obviously I was very disappointed not to hear Arshavin or a DM go through. Here is a few bits I was able to pick up yesterday about the final movements.Arshavin. Was very close to happening - just a few niggly details that we couldn't iron through in time. Work is still ongoing over this (saving that this fortnight is often DL and DC's annual leave) and we hope to sort it soon and make an announcement in November. All three parties still very keen and we want it sorted asap to prevent any gazumping from the likes of City in Jan.Campbell. When it was apparent on Monday afternoon that Arshavin wouldn't happen in time (but still would) we didn't want to end up with an expensive lower calibre second choice (aka Milito or any of the Garcias etc) who we'd then have to shift next summer. Campbell makes up our numbers for now and allows us (financially and numbers wise) to go all in for Arshavin and possibly a Bent upgrade in January. I don't have any specific information about whether there's an option to buy but I do know that i) Levy has never before agreed a loan in deal without there being an option to buy and has said he never would; ii) however, time was very short for arranging the loan. IMO Campbell doesn't fit into our plans (of not having 4 or even 3 strikers, but 2 top number 9s (Pav + Bent upgrade) and then Arshavin and Dos Santos also playing 10 and on left) and we probably wouldn't take up an option to buy, even if there was one.DM. Too many barriers in the end with Veloso and he was never fully committed. Madrid wouldn't release de la Red, even on loan. We ultimately didn't see any of the other options available as improvements on what we already had. Ar5ena1's failure to address their similar situation perhaps demonstrates the huge dearth of options in this position. Back to the drawing board for January.Comolli - absolute b**l**ks that his job is in any sense under threat. Everyone is delighted with our dealings this summer, especially after the Keane and Berbatov bombshell. That those last two deals didn't go through on deadline day is just indicative of the difficult nature of transfers. Levy, Ramos and Comolli are very tight, trusting of each other's abilities and all singing from the same hymn sheet. We've also now got c.£50m burning a hole for January.Moving on to more current topics - Poyet. As of last night Newcastle had approached him informally and he flatly rebuffed this enquiry. He is not especially interested in the post for footballing reasons and on a personal level he, Maddie and the boys never really settled in Leeds and were delighted to be able to back to the home counties where they've been living for over a decade now. He and Wise are mates, but more in the sense that Poyet is mates with everyone. He and Ramos are far more on the same wavelength (generally their own planet when it comes to talking in depth tactics). A renewed approach is of course possible but, saving an obscene salary offer, have faith that Gus is one of the smartest people in the game and knows what is sensible for his long term aspirations. He is being groomed to succeed Ramos and knows that'll be the time and job for him (and not this poisoned chalice). Lets just hope they appoint someone else quickly so that this speculation vanishes like the Man U number 2 stuff did.
Pre contract soon come.Watch this space.

So basically the starting line up with spurs when you buy Arshavin will be... GomesHutton King Woody Bale Corluka Bentley Modric Jenas Arshavin PavlechenkoOn paper that does look good, but i seriously see theres going to be a big problem with Modric and Arshavin, They both have very similar attributes, All your team needs is depth and difference, with corluka there in your team gives the midfielders a bit of a freeer role and your spine is alot stronger but still, dont you lot think that Arshavin will drop a bit deeper... causing your midfiled to drop because essentially he will play infront of your midfield, I seriously do think your team would be so much more effective buying some one else, although i do think you lot will buy him i hope for your sake he doesnt play like that lazy sh*t i saw in the WC... reminded me of a not bothered Ronaldinho but then again i know that he may be deadout in the whole game but it only takes 1 min to do something special... Your team would be so much more effective playing Pav and Bent with Arshavin dropping behind...My midfielders onwards would be... Corluka Bentley Arshavin Jenas(Bale would be so much more effective in this position) Pav Bent

Nah f*ck having Bent anywhere near our starting lineup.Pav is the way forward, and with Arshavin in behind, would be IDEAL.I dont wanna get carried away with talk of still bringing him in, because knowing our board they will f*ck up again and make me very dissapointed which soon turns into some mad anger at the way we are run.

Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin has reignited his transfer saga which dominated the headlines during the summer. After a close season of on-off negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur, Arshavin eventually remained at Zenit after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement on a fee. However, speaking after Zenit's 2-0 UEFA Champions League victory over BATE Borisov on Wednesday, Arshavin publicly demanded a transfer."Four months ago I told the president of the club that I didn't want to remain at the club any more," Arshavin told Sport Express."Everything depends on a single thing - whether Zenit will value me realistically. If that happens of course I will leave."[if it doesn't] I will be a Zenit player on paper only. I neither desire nor intend to play here next year."Natural reactionArshavin denied that this was an ultimatum, stating simply that it was a 'natural reaction' to the uncertainty surrounding his transfer status. The news could draw the attention of many clubs around Europe, not least Spurs, who conducted lengthy negotiations with Zenit over Arshavin this summer and have another Russian, Roman Pavlyuchenko, in the ranks.Asked whether, in view of their precarious league position, Arshavin would consider a move to Spurs in January, the player was diplomatic."Naturally [if I was playing for Spurs] they would be challenging for the Champions League," he joked."Seriously, I cannot give an estimate because I am not in the team and, moreover, I haven't even seen how they are playing."Zenit coach d*ck Advocaat admitted in Friday's press conference that if the player wished to leave, the club should allow him to.Meanwhile it was also announced that Advocaat had signed a new contract to coach the St Petersburg club until the end of 2009.
lol @ him being right as well....

Arshavin: I can't even watch Spurs on TV because I should be playing there - and I'll go on strike if Zenit don't sell meAndrei Arshavin has revealed he is so unhappy at not joining Tottenham in the summer that he can't even bear to watch them on TV - and will go on strike if Zenit St Petersburg don't sell him in January. The 27-year-old Russia striker is still fuming about the collapse of his move to White Hart Lane and his mood has not been helped by constant teasing from his team-mates and manager d*ck Advocaat on the subject.ArshavinPlaying - for now: Arshavin (right) gets the better of BATE defender Aleksandr Yurevich in the Champions League this weekThe Londoners instead signed Roman Pavyluchencko for £14m from Spartak Moscow leaving Arshavin to rage: 'If Zenit do not put a realistic price tag on me and let me go, I'll stay but only on paper. I do not want to play for them next year - and won't.'I'm a professional. I try to play for Zenit as well as I can. But do not feel any satisfaction and my teammates don't have any fun playing with me because they see what a state I'm in.'Four months ago I told the Zenit president that I did not want to stay. I repeated that several times but my words were either not heard or ignored.ArshavinOn target: But Arshavin did not score for Zenit'If I do not want to play then I won't. Which is what will happen next year if Zenit and I do not go our separate ways. There's no way for me to quit without a conflict although that wasn't what I wanted.'Arshavin also admitted he can't even bear to watch Tottenham on TV, adding: 'I don't have to watch their games. I get full reports of their games anyway from everyone. After my unhappy attempt to move to London, everyone at Zenit is interested in Tottenham.'After each of their matches absolutely everyone has a dig at me about it, starting with d*ck Advocaat.'

Roman Pavlyuchenko has urged Tottenham to sign Russia team-mate Andrei Arshavin in the January transfer window. Arshavin was strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane in the summer, but the deal failed to materialise. The classy schemer is keen to secure a move away from Zenit St Petersburg and a number of clubs are expected to make a bid for his services when the transfer window reopens.Pavlyuchenko admits he would like to see Tottenham swoop for Arshavin as he would be interested in extending his international strike partnership to club level.Asked whether he would appreciate Arshavin's arrival in January, Pavlyuchenko told the London Evening Standard: "Yes, of course I would like that."I haven't spoken to Arshavin myself, although I know there have been discussions about him moving to another club. All I know is that Arshavin wants to join another good European team."Pavlyuchenko has started to find his feet at Spurs after a slow start to life in North London following his summer switch from Spartak Moscow. The 26-year-old has scored seven goals so far this season and he believes his partnership with Darren Bent is improving."It is too early to judge the partnership [with Bent], but in practice matches, we pass a lot to each other, and we seem to able to find our game," added Pavlyuchenko

Arshavin feeding pav or bent would be epicwe dont actually need a goal scorer because we have 2 goal scorers, they just dont score as much as they should because we havent got the right midfield-attack link players to supply themlook how less prolific we've been since modric has been out, now imagine modric & arshavin in a fluid attack with Pav/Bent just in front
