R* did very well with it, games were insane back when they dropped but still cant really say that if someone else had come with one if gta hadnt have been made it definately would have been as good. things like the time of release come into it aswell and if another company had made one later than when gta came it its even more likely it would have been better. The fact that R* were very comfortable coding for the PS2 whereas at the time, no other independent Dev was really making those kind of epic games.. it made them step back and say "woah, thats what you can do if you study your craft" aka the PS2. It was proven with the sequels.. as the maps got bigger and bigger, with more activities/input/detail/graphical overhaul (albeit not too much) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There aint ANYTHING that stands out.You had your True Crimes' (which was aight for a bit) and ur Mafias'.. which was set back in the day.. but nothing that could of really rivalled the success of R* product.IMO obv.As i said, they had time to perfect their craft.. they know how to code a game for that format, and i do NOT believe any other dev at the time of the PS2 launch could code as well as them. R* North were previously (couple years back, in ps2 prime) voted the best developer on the Playstation format.. next to Sony themsevles.
