Andrei Arshavin's agent says the deal taking his client to Arsenal should be concluded over the next week. The 27-year-old Zenit St Petersburg ace has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and almost joined Arsenal's big rivals Tottenham. But now the Gunners are in pole position to seal the forward's signature in a deal which is likely to be worth more than £15million.The deal will also represent a club record for Arsenal, beating the £13million they paid for Sylvain Wiltord some nine years ago."The deal should go through this week," Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter said in the News of the World."Andrei wants to go, Arsenal want him and Zenit accept they have to sell."It's just a matter of sorting out the sums but the indication is it'll happen soon, perhaps within days."

Look, TBH, no-one is disputing that signing a DM/enforcer is more of a priority, but you have to consider that Arshavin is readily AVAILABLE whilst a worthy DM isn't as a available as him and there are no high-profile candidates.. In addition to that, Arshavin is also a high-profile player, so it's a given that he'll be more discussed than other problem areas.TBH, in terms of priority, it should be like this: DM >>> Arshavin >>> GK >>> CB

ARSENAL LAND ANDREI ARSHAVINRussian ace on brink of £17million move to EmiratesBy AIDAN MAGEE, 17/01/2009 http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/1 ... HAVIN.htmlANDREI ARSHAVIN is on the verge of completing a record-breaking move to Arsenal in a deal that will make him the club’s highest earner. The Russian playmaker, 27, is set to join the Gunners from Zenit St Petersburg for £17million on a contract worth £96,000-a-week. The package dwarfs the £80,000-a-week paid to current top earners William Gallas, Emmanuel Adebayor and boss Arsene Wenger. The fee shatters Arsenal’s record transfer deal, which has stood for nine years since French striker Sylvain Wiltord arrived from Bordeaux for £13m. Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter said: “The deal should go through this week. Andrei wants to go, Arsenal want him and Zenit accept they have to sell. “It’s just a matter of sorting out the sums but the indication is it’ll happen soon, perhaps within days.” Arsenal made an initial offer of £10m up front with another £5m to be paid in performance-related add-ons but the Russians wanted £18m. The Gunners will compromise by upping the deal to £17m. :D

i swear you lot forget you got eboue right mid, rosicky crocked and walcott who cant play footballarshavin will be a good player for you direct pacey can pass and is very creative in the final third
No send, but who do you support? Always see you commenting on Arsenal, thought you were a Gooner TBH.Exactly. Bare sideways passing in the final 3rd. It was bad before, but jeeez, sh*t is ridiculous right now. Alot of the games we've THROWN away, is because we haven't been as clinical as we shoud've been, and Arshavin, provided he adapts will give us that edge that even a fit Rosicky & Walcott won't give us.I'll repeat, a DM is more of a priority, but Arshavin is AVAILABLE whilst candidates for that DM are not, at least not to our knowledge.

Arshavin is perfect at Arsenal, well for Wenger, cos he a utility forward player. Can play wing, in the hole, or upfront. As long as he doesnt regularly get injured Wenger will love having him around.I'm sure Arsenal's scouting network could find a better goalkeeper than Almunia...or the could just publically bid for Shay Given.
