UFC 142: Rio Saturday night

Jose Aldo vs Chad Mendes

Aldo finally headlines a card, albeit in his native Brazil. Can see this one playing out much like Aldo v Faber, loads of leg kicks early on will defo slow down Mendes' takedown attempts, which obviously is his only chance of winning. Aldo on points pretty comfortably in my opinion.

Vitor Belfort vs Anthony Johnson

Johnson's first fight at 185lbs, and he's STILL the physically bigger guy compared to Vitor  Saying that, he doesn't have the major size advantage as he usually does when he fights at welterweight. Also Vitor will not be holding back, from the get go I'd be willing to wager Belfort's game plan is to put Johnson on the backfoot immediately and not let him settle. But he will need to be wary of the nasty head-kicks Johnson is so good at. Someone is getting knocked out, that I'm almost certain.

Palhares vs Massenzio

Paul Harris taking home another leg. Crazy bastard, feel sorry for Massenzio.

Erick Silva vs Carlo Prater

Much talked about Silva's second fight in the UFC, he was perfect in his debut, and now he gets to fight in Brazil again. I don't know much about Prater, so can't really make a prediction. But I will jump on the hype bandwagon and go with another first round knockout.

Edson Barboza vs Terry Etim

Fight of the Night? Probably so. Barboza will employ his usual crisp striking early on, try and keep Etim at a distance and keep out of his dangerous submission game. Etim is a big underdog, not exactly sure why, a lot of people are getting caught up in Barboza's flashiness. He wasn't overly impressive against Pearson, who stood with him for the entire three rounds. We haven't seen him on his back, and he really does not want to be there with Terry Etim in his guard. Have to go with Etim by submission.

Sam Stout vs Thiago Tavares also on the card, Gonzaga makes his UFC return, looking forward to that.

Bit pissed that the prelims are not going to be on facebook now. Who the hell has Fuel TV here? Because I certainly don't

f*ck*ng wow @ Barboza's roundhouse knockout. Best KO in MMA history easily. The way Etim fell down was scary.

Erick Silva went in, that stupid c*nt Yamasaki robbed him. One shot out of like 10 hit the back of the head, how can you take that victory away? Absolute farce.

Toquinho wins via leglock, no surprises there. Guy is a total monster. Belfort also did pretty well vs Johnson, not entirely sure what Rumble's game plan was though. Very strange fight from him.

Main event was sick too, Aldo with the dirtiest knockout with 1 second left in the round. Caught Mendes FLUSH with the knee and landed what will now be known as the A-Bomb on Mendes' jaw  They way he ran into the crowd celebrating was surreal, amazing stuff.

Overall, one of the best cards in recent years.

There have been spinning roundhouse kicks before, but no way as brutal and definitely not with the technique as Barboza's. Only thing that comes close to my mind, is Badr Hari vs Leko, that wasn't even MMA.

Rampages powerbomb as spectacular as it was, its always been marred by the headbutt which Arona claims knocked him out. Anderson's ongbak elbow was no where as impressive as tonight, and the Capoeira dude was fighting in a random ass show against a f*ck*ng can, don't see how you can even compare.

The reason I'm saying it was the best was the level of competition of the fighters, fighting on the biggest stage, and the dude can manage to pull something like that off.

What i liked about Rampages powerbomb is the fact he had hes Arm bar / Triangle locked in , and then powerbombed him.

Theres a funny story behind Anderson Silva ong bac ko , his trainers wouldnt let him work on that strike because they thought it pointless , so Anderson used to practice with hes wife at home wth some pillows , and then one fight he said "im going to do it" and they thought he was joking. The celebration after he landed it was nuts too lol.

Your right though , Barbozas round house was technically faultless, but my reason for objecting your point is because they have landed and ko'd before!

personal favorite KO for me is still the Gonzaga one that ended Cro cop's career,

As much as i dislike jim, Rashad's against Chuck's will always live in the memory,

but these two are probably as memorable for the shock factor.

the one last night was near flawless though, excellent ability

great card though, well worth keeping on the tivo box
