OFFICIAL: Liverpool Midfielder Yossi Benayoun Joins Chelsea On Three-Year Deal

Chelsea have announced the capture of Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee believed to be between £5 million and £6 million.

The 30-year old has been linked with a switch to the Premier League champions all summer as a replacement for the out of contract Joe Cole and will join his new team-mates for pre-season training on July 5. The move brings to an end the Israel international's three year stay on Merseyside, where he grabbed 18 goals in 92 appearances.

Speaking to the Blues' official website, Benayoun said: "I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful."

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: "We are happy to have this new player. Yossi has a lot of quality in midfield and can play in lots of positions. I like his behaviour on the pitch and he will do a great job for us next season."

A spokesman on Liverpool's official website wished Benayoun all the best for the future. They said: "Yossi's departure was agreed between the player and Rafael Benitez a number of weeks ago. Everybody at Liverpool FC wishes him well for the future."

Yossi in March

"It's very difficult to speak now about next season," said Benayoun. "We don't know what changes there will be – players, the staff, so I think it's too early to speak. I don't know personally even if I will be here or I will not be here. A lot of things can happen."

AKA

I am leaving at the end of the season. I shall say nothing more.

the noises coming out when this transfer was first spoke about was that Benitez said 10 million or no deal, a few weeks after he's gone the fee is undisclosed the board blame it on Rafa and you believe it?

There is no way you would let a manager you wanted out conduct transfers weeks before he was leaving.

So Rafa WAS trying to sell him. If he was trying to sell him for £10m+ and Yossi knew about it (which Im sure he did), Yossi would obviously be thinking: I'm getting pushed out here. And thats exactly what has happened. IMO This deal was agreed TIME AGO cos Yossi was unsure about his future since Feb and would not clarify his future status.

End of the day man is gone

He is JUDAS

Lets leave it at that

Who's next is the real question.

lol wtf he wasn't trying to sell him at all, he was setting a price that high enough to put Chelsea off but in the event they were willing we'd actually get a decent amount.

The Owners are on the verge of having a fire sale and you're seemingly not aware of it at all, Rafa was the resistance to the yanks doing whatever to balance the books but now he's gone don't be surprised to see players sold but no money being reinvested.

"f*ck these owners"

New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is desperate to see an ownership takeover at Anfield as soon as possible.

Reds co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks appointed Barclays Capital in May to sell their control and British Airways chairman Martin Broughton was appointed to oversee the process.

Broughton confessed on Thursday at a press conference to unveil Hodgson as Rafa Benitez's successor that he had yet to receive an official offer for Liverpool, but he insists that there are interested parties.

With Liverpool struggling under reported debts of £350million, Hodgson wants to see the arrival of replacements for Gillett and Hicks, and to get his hands on the expected transfer funds that would be made available after a takeover.

He said: "The sooner that happens the better. That is what the fans want. They want new ownership, maybe in the way Manchester City found new ownership!

Money

"I can understand fans wanting that because they want the best for the club.

"They know the only way to get that is to have quality players on the pitch and they cost money."

Former Fulham boss Hodgson was made aware of the structure and status of Liverpool's hierarchy before he arrived.

He added: "It was made clear to me how the board was set up and that the owners are quite prepared to sell the club.

"I was told I would have to accept that somewhere during my tenure the club might be sold and I fully understand the position.

"There's always going to be people who want to own Liverpool. It's just a question of when it can be sold and whether the new owners are prepared to back the club as we all think it should be backed."
