Guest Portuguese
Brazil legend Ronaldo has indicated that Santos star Neymar could become the best player in the world in the space of just two years. There has been huge pressure on Neymar's shoulders to carry Brazil to success after the country has failed to produce a world-class player in recent years. At the age of 19, Neymar has already earned a place in Brazil's setup and has been strongly linked with a €45 million (£39.5m) switch to both Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Santos ace was heavily criticised for his performances at Copa America, where Brazil bowed out at the quarter-final stage, but Ronaldo is confident his compatriot has everything to become football's brightest star. "He is very technical, very fast and has a great personality, because he is always the same, even when he is fouled or grabbed," Ronaldo told Canal +. "To me, he is already the best Brazilian player and I am sure that after one or two years in Europe he can be the best player in the world." The former Inter and Real Madrid striker also tried to shake off some of the pressure that has been affecting Neymar by saying the gifted forward only needs to focus on his game. "When you reach the level in which you are the protagonist of the national team, all you can find is pressure," Ronaldo added. "The kid needs to have his mind clear, to stay calm and very determined for him not to be diverted from his path. "He needs to think only about playing. He needs to have a team to take care of his life. He does have that, so it is a question of knowing how to make the right decisions." Guest Portuguese
Jose Mourinho continues to gain influence at Real Madrid, with the club this week announcing an extension of his powers at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid announced on Friday that they are restructuring the club’s management set-up, with the most significant change seeing two-time Champions League winner Mourinho given a new role. Under the title of ‘mánager deportivo de fútbol’, Mourinho takes control of all footballing matters at the capital club - including transfer policy - in a hugely significant step taken by President Florentino Perez. Mourinho takes on a position best compared with the English model of a football manager, with decisions also now as wide-ranging as travel arrangements and club doctors in his hands. Already this is being felt, examples ranging from the continued shift away from Perez’ transfer policy towards Mourinho’s, to finer points such as the Coach’s control over - and implementation of changes of - the players’ diets. Also included in the redefining role is the fact Mourinho will now answer only to new director general Jose Angel Sanchez, and Perez himself, eliminating a previous chain of command that had existed between Coach and President. In all, it is a continuation of the 48-year-old’s growing influence at Los Blancos and in a role like no Real Coach or even Spanish League Coach before him. Crucially though, in light of continued domination both domestically and internationally by Barcelona, Real are bowing to his requests.
