Portsmouth are poised to pull off a double swoop for Sylvain Distin and Sulley Muntari within the next 48 hours. However, plans to turn Arnold Mvuemba's loan move into a permanent deal have been stalled by the 20-year-old's ã3million price tag.Confirmation Distin's five-year career at Manchester City is over has boosted Pompey's confidence that they can finally complete a ã40,000-a-week deal for the 29-year-old on a free transfer. The 6ft 4in defender opted to see out the final year of his City contract last summer when Pompey boss Harry Redknapp was hoping to sign him.Now Distin, signed by City for ã4million in 2002 from Paris St Germain after spending a season with Newcastle on loan, insists: "I have enjoyed my time at City but now I feel I have to play somewhere else."Distin is reported to have turned down approaches from Middlesbrough and Newcastle, preferring to fight for a place in central defence with Sol Campbell and Linvoy Primus at Fratton Park. The scenario is complicated by new Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce's interest in Campbell - and Redknapp's in Titus Bramble, the former Ipswich defender who has been released after five years at the Magpies. But Udinese midfielder Muntari has revealed he cannot wait to play for Pompey. And he could be the first of Redknapp's targets to arrive in a ã7million switch that would shatter the club's transfer record fee of ã4.4 million, which they paid to Auxerre in January last year for striker Benjani Mwaruwari.Ghana World Cup star Muntari says he has agreed personal terms and claims he has been "supporting" Pompey for a year since Redknapp first tried to sign him from the Italian Serie A club. The 22-year-old has already played at Fratton Park - in Sunday's charity game organised by striker Nwankwo Kanu, who has revealed he is also close to signing a new contract.Muntari told the Portsmouth News: "I'm just waiting for the day to join Portsmouth. I want to play here. To step on this ground, it is like I've started in the Premiership already."It is a fantastic club with class players like Pedro Mendes, Sol Campbell, David James and Kanu - and a great manager in Harry Redknapp, who has been following me since last year."I spoke to Harry before the game. We shook hands and told me to enjoy it. He is not just a good manager but a good man. I saw the way he spoke to players in the changing room. It was fantastic."So were the fans. To see them turn up to cheer us on for Kanu's game in the way they did was fantastic."Redknapp admits he "would love to take Sulley" but the player's ã11million fee put off Pompey last year.He also wants French youngster Mvuemba to stay - but only if the price is right. The midfielder has impressed on loan at Portsmouth since January, making seven appearances and scoring against Watford but is rated at ã3million by Rennes and Redknapp said: "The boy has shown great potential and could have a future here but it would have to be for the right money."Pompey are believed to favour a ã1million-plus deal based on appearances and Redknapp said: "Peter Storrie [Portsmouth chief executive] is speaking to his club and we'll have to see what happens."Meanwhile, Pompey have handed Belfast-born reserve midfielder Marc Wilson, 19, - formerly on loan with Bournemouth - a new two-year contract. But Redknapp will listen to offers for centre-back Andy O'Brien, 28, who cost ã2million from Newcastle two years ago.
Good signings.

Portsmouth are building, but will still be any mid table team, which is good enough for them.We are gettin Kaboul anyway, heard rave reports about him from France this year. Young and debatable whether he is as good as Distin. But will be in future years.Supposedly he has turned down Lyon and Roma to come to North London.

Auxerre defender Younes Kaboul is being tipped to join Tottenham within the next week, according to sources in France.Spurs have long been linked with a bid for the talented stopper and reports claim Martin Jol could land his man as early as Sunday.Auxerre complete their Ligue 1 campaign at Valenciennes this weekend and following the game Kaboul is tipped to wrap up his move to White Hart Lane.Kaboul has impressed greatly for AJA this season, playing a prominent role in defence and also chipping in with a couple of goals.Tottenham director of sports Damien Comolli is a huge admirer of the Frenchman and is believed to be ready to pay in the region of ââ¬12million (ã8.2million).Spurs scouts have been sent to the Stade Abbe-Deschamps a number of times over the past months to track Kaboul and Bakari Sagna. While Sagna has been told he will not be allowed to leave, Kaboul is set to sign a four-year contract with Tottenham.Lyon and Fiorentina were also keen, but the 21-year-old looks to have chosen the ambitious North London club, who will be playing in the Uefa Cup again next season.

Pompey are trying to sign Utaka and Diarra also this summer, then no doubt Redknapp will complian about being down to "bare bones" when they go off to the African Nations Cup in January, and expect us to feel sorry for him...

Roberto Zanzi, the general director of the Friuliani club, admitted Udinese and Portsmouth have negotiated an undisclosed fee - thought to be in the region of ã7million - and it is now down to the 22-year-old Ghanian to agree terms. Zanzi said: "We have been negotiating with Portsmouth for the permanent transfer of Sulley Muntari to the English club. "The negotiations have advanced and we have allowed the player to go to England to discuss his personal terms." Pompey manager Harry Redknapp has made no secret of his desire to take Muntari to Fratton Park. "I think we are very close," Redknapp said on Wednesday about Muntari, whose arrival would shatter the club's transfer record. "We are hopeful we can get it done very soon. I have watched him for over a year and at just 22, he is a fantastic player."
