STAYING UP LATE GOONS

hogmaneighoj4.pngA talented sprinter whose racecourse debut came in an Auction Maiden at Ayr where he wore bandages on both hind legs, not a good start breaking slowly but managed to overcome a troubled passage and show a nice turn of foot close to home but would receive a rating of 87 from the handicapper. There would be only one more race for Hogmaneigh as a 2yo where he would be tried on the all weather at Lingfield coming 4th but it looked like the surface didn’t suit. The 3yo campaign started off in a 0-100 handicap at Newmarket although not able to land a blow it was a positive run. First win of the season came in a 0-95 at Nottingham, after being dropped 2lbs from Newmarket he put that to good effect showing a nice turn of foot to put the race to bed and could prove a decent sprinter on this soft ground. A Rise in the weights of 6lbs after his success looked harsh for his latest outing at Newmarket but to his credit he ran a game race leaving two 100 rated horses behind but although seeming to have every chance he was unable to catch the winner. A break of 3 months and a first time at 5 furlongs would see Hogmaneigh’s best performance to date making some decent sprinters look average, held up at the back the horse would make some rapid headway on the outside 1furlong out and was going away towards the end and the time was quite fast as well. The Ladbrokes Portland Handicap sprint was next on the agenda after an 8lb rise but was a messy race being caught up last in this big field then a change of tactics crossing over to join the centre group would see Hogmaneigh start to find his rhythm and put in a bold effort to come 3rd and would of been the one to note after this. Next up was the Ayr Gold Cup an early target for Hogmaneigh but failed to live up to expectations against some experienced sprinters but would continue to disappoint after such a bright start coming 13th of 18 runners in the Coral Sprint Cup at York and it had seemed all had come abit too soon for Hogmaneigh and was found wanting with these experienced sprinters. The start to his 4yo campaign would be bright, running in a 0-100 handicap over 5 furlongs at York, after a 7 month break he settled much better doing most of his work towards the end of the race staying on strongly and looks to have learnt from last year. A win came next time out in the Dash at Epsom in good style, a time recorded in the same range of his win at Sandown last year and this is a race which has produced some fair sprinters but on a downside the trainers reported the horse has been having foot problems due to his love for soft ground but were still hopeful of running him in the Arc. Next up was the Wokingham at Ascot off a career high mark but was a performance to forget never really got going. A trip to the Curragh and bottomless ground was next; he was conceding alot running off top weight and found the ground a little too much to deal with not really being able to pick up despite staying on towards the end. The next targeted sprint on soft ground would come in the way of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sprint Stakes at Ascot and going off as 9/2f it was another performance left to be desired coming 13th of 24 runners but never threatening. Coming towards the end of the season things weren’t looking any brighter after a Listed event at Doncaster but the ground was recorded as Good to Firm which wasn’t going to suit and predictably Hogmaneigh found little and come 2nd to last. The main target this year after his success at Epsom was the Prix de l’Abbaye but confidence couldn’t have been high after a wayward season and the inevitable happened coming last and couldn’t go the pace and was pretty clear he was well out his depth. Now a 5yo a return to the course would see him run in a 0-110 at Newbury but a run was needed. The next racecourse appearance for Hogmaneigh would see him in the Stanjames Heritage Handicap sprint at Newmarket in which the ground was gradually drying out throughout the day and eventually wasn’t enough cut but despite that he showed there’s a race or 2 left in him finishing a credible 3 lengths behind Off The Record. The Epsom Dash was next and last year’s winner Hogmaneigh run every bit as good as last year but just found a few old foes well in the handicap. The next stop would be Ripon in the William Hill Great St Wilfrid Stakes and everything looked in his favour being in the far side and ground seeming perfect but the run didn’t match the expectations after such a promising effort in the Dash and I could only put that down to the soar feet taking its tole as mentioned earlier in his career. Connections tried to help this problem with his feet and had brought some new shoes from America which are similar to the ones Big Brown has been helped with and were seen to full effect when running in the Ladbrokes Portland at Doncaster in which he came 3rd last year but absolutely stormed home this year recording a fantastic time, held up as usual Saleem asked for its effort and Hogmaneigh duly obliged by grinding down the long leader Siren’s gift and winning by a short head to River Falcon, It was a great win all round and well deserved.A horse who is a talented sprinter who may not have gone on to do what he should of done due to his foot problem you can be assured that on his day in the right company and the right ground he will be a match for anyone and the new shoes look to have revitalised him. With an Ayr Gold Cup entry this Saturday I think he will be back to claim glory on his second attempt just like the Ladbrokes Portland and has been priced up at 16/1.Thanks for reading and good luckLuke Wilson

These online applications are a joke ting. None of these f*ckas got back to me yet and its been nearly two weeks.
if u apply to something follow it up if a week goes by with no response, it helps trust. better for them to see you as overenthusiatic about working for them than underenthusiastic. if that makes sense
