Too many times this season we've struggled to control games from start to finish. In some of the big games this season (even when the other team has got a red card) we've either finished the game with lower possession or more shots conceded or both.

It's like the game last weekend. As soon as I saw the trio of Carrick, Jones and Rooney instead of Carrick, Cleverley/Anderson and Kagawa I knew the ball retention would be poor and the midfield battle would be lost.

 

So when I look around Europe at the possibility that Fergie will be foolish enough to play Carrick, Jones and Rooney

Alonso, Modric and Ozil

We've had Carrick Young Nani Valencia Scholes Anderson Rooney Kagawa Giggs Cleverly and even Welbeck feature in the middle. That's 11 men. The fact is few of those have consistently preformed at the WC level required to make their selection concrete. While we cover it up as healthy competition for places.

Kagawa can get 15+ goals easily when settled in and good consistent performers doing the work behind him and bringing forward the ball for him and without Rooney around to take up his space

Anderson came on after 73mins

Arsenal had more possession, pressed more aggressively making more tackles and interceptions than us and had 19 shots compared to our 12.

We picked up 5 yellows on Sunday. 4 within a 13min spell because we were frustrated at not being able to keep the ball.

If you watched that game and walked away thinking United dominated the majority of that game and won the midfield battle that day you're an idiot.
