Ken Livingstone 'legalise ecstasy'

Ken Livingstone came under fresh pressure last night when it emerged that his allies in the Green Party are calling for the legalisation of ecstasy.Boris Johnson, the Conservative candidate for London mayor, called on Mr Livingstone to disown the Greens over the inclusion in their manifesto of a proposal to decriminalise the class A drug, which claims 50 lives a year and is linked to liver, kidney and heart problems. The Mayor has entered a pact with Sian Berry, the Green Party's candidate, to persuade her supporters to give their second preference votes to him in the May 1 election. His press release announcing the deal last month said: "The call unites Ken Livingstone and Sian Berry on the basis of common policies".Miss Berry's manifesto, launched last week, advocates "decriminalising recreational drugs such as ecstasy and psychotropic mushrooms" as well as "providing heroin on prescription". She also proposes "a local democratic tax on cannabis sale where the purchaser chooses a local project to receive a percentage of the profits". The drug would be sold in Dutch-style "coffee shops".Mr Johnson, who has admitted trying cannabis and cocaine when he was younger, said: "Ecstasy alone kills one person a week in this country and to call for its legalisation is both dangerous and reckless. Surely the Mayor does not agree with this?I call upon him to condemn the Green Party's approach and call off this cynical vote pact. "If Ken Livingstone will not publicly rebuke Sian Berry, voters will rightly conclude that he supports the Green Party manifesto in full."Livingstone in row over 'legalise ecstasy' callBy Melissa Kite, Deputy Political EditorLast Updated: 2:40am BST 14/04/2008http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...3/nmayor113.xml

read this article in the metro the other day...

VOTE GREEN TO LEGALISE DRUGS AND PROSTITUTIONBy John HigginsonPROSTITUTION and Amsterdam-style coffee shops selling cannabis, magic mushrooms and ecstasy would be legal under the Green Party. The Green London mayor hopeful wants to take Britain's £8billion drug trade out of the hands of criminals to be taxed and regulated - raising £2billion.Cannabis would be sold in Dutch-style coffee shops and heroin on prescription, said the party yesterday as it launched its manifesto for the elections for London mayor and the London assembly.Sian Berry, Green mayoral candidate, said she would push for a system similar to that in New Zealand, where prostitution and brothels have been legal since 2003.'A lot of harm is caused in prostitution largely due to its illegality,' Ms Berry said.'Its the same with drugs. Pushing these things underground makes them very dangerous. Legalising brothels makes it safer for prostitutes and clients and also earns money in tax.'Ms Berry said she would push for an amnesty on the 400,000 illegal immigrants working in London. The move, which is supported by all three of the other main candidates, could raise £1billion in income tax.Green Party drugs spokesman Shane Collins, who is running for the London Assembly, said: 'Fifty-seven per cent of all crime and 80 per cent of burglary in the UK is to feed a heroin or crack habit. Current policy is simply not working. There needs to be a radical change with regulation and control which will lead to a massive drop in crime.'Ms Berry also pleges to get free insulation for needy London homes, up the number of affordable homes built to 60 per cent and make City airport an eco village. The party has two of the 25 seats on the Assembly but new polls suggest that will rise.

the thing is these pricks can argue all they like about not wanting to change legislations on the drug policies, but it is INEVITABLE that it will be changed, the information in the world has gotten so much better on the subject that it would be stupid to abide by the same system.if they legalised E they would jus need to REGULATE it somehow, in terms of purity, price and dosige limits. If it was legal i aint gona lie id feel A LOT safer in maybe tryin it again one day but dats not to say i would for defo.id back him tho if he is on legalising weed. bumped price or not it removes the stigma in society and makes it more comfortable for people to use knowing its government regulated for quality.imagine coffee shops in the ends :D

The social climate in this country isn't right for them to legalise any drugs yet but they will. Then they'll put some f*ck off tax on it.
