Blatter to tackle PL dominance

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has again reiterated his plans to implement the 'six plus five' rule in the Premier League. Blatter's latest call follows his observation that English clubs have recently dominated the UEFA Champions League. For the last two seasons, there have been three Premier League sides in the last-four of Europe's elite club competition Blatter is keen to limit the number of foreign players in England's top flight, forcing sides to start every match with at least six England-qualified players. The Frenchman is to seek a mandate from the Fifa Congress later this month to begin talks with the European Union and football's authorities over implementing the 'six plus five' rule. National inequalityBlatter said: "Shall we let the rich become richer and say nothing? "The big money is coming out of the Champions League - it's the biggest league in the world and practically 80 per cent of the income goes to the directly to the 32 participating clubs. "This season, there were four English teams in the last eight, three in the semi-finals and two in the final. "The Champions League has been very successful financially but it has also favoured national inequality. That's why, being in charge of football, I have to bring this item to the attention of the Congress. "This is the sporting situation but let us start with our idea of the 'six plus five' rule and then we will see what the difference will be in the future. "This rule will be fighting against the monopolies of clubs and leagues. But we are not fighting the problem of money but for the identity of national teams." In order for a cap to be legal, Fifa will need the European Union to agree to make sport an exception to its employment laws, which guarantee freedom of movement for its citizens. Brazilian concernsFifa will also look to extend the residency period to five years before a player can represent another country - in some countries the period is currently as short as two years. Blatter added: "After only a two-year period, a player can receive nationality from another country and there is a danger that in 2014 half the players in the World Cup could come from Brazil! "That's why the executive committee will propose to the Congress that only after five years being resident that a player can become a 'football citizen'I GUESS THIS WILL LEAVE THE TOP 4 WITH A DILEMMA, EVEN THE REST OF THE PREM. THIS IS A GOOD THING FOR HOME GROWN TALENT.

It amazes me when English people support this idea like its being done for the good of the national team. Its being done cos foreign clubs and football people, ie FIFA see English club football dominating and know they cant compete. When everyone was doing good, its was ok, but England nah must stop it, handicap them & make them play their shitty nation players that cant get to finals.

Responses seem a little biased tbh, obvioulsy.I think somethign like this should be put in place in the permiership, because it has gotten out of hand.I think you should have no more than 7 foreigners in your teamHOWEVERObviously you cant have the situation of people playing in a team SIMPLY because they are english-not because they will have been picked first, which is what would end up happening. But then again, this happening would have a ripple effect, more english kids would get chosen younger, the demand would be higher, better training etc..Could helpI dunno tbh, but I will say that fielding an english premiership team with a foreign manager and all/90% foreign players is absolutely ridiculous. If you make it so this is doen for every leage than fair enough.

I beg blatter f*ck off always got something to say about the premiership.Anyways im sure he wont be able to do it because of european laws which far outweigh anything a football governing body can do.

Although i personally hate the gap between the top 4 and the rest of the league it is undoubtably good for our domestic game. The talent that we can see on show from our own club even against shitfests like Boro and Wigan up north is at a very high level, give or take a few players here and there. As long as ticket prices dont go up because of this and the average fan starts getting priced out of football, i am ok with it. But knowing Spurs they will probably increase our ticket prices for next season again by 12%. SMFH.

5 is so extreme thoughi think it should jsut be like 3 in your match day squad or somethingbecause you cant MAKE teams have english players if they dont... atleast if that rule was about then theyd be thinking long term for the future 'we need to start developing english talent so we dont have to worry about this'
