Done with exams as of today.Paper today was fairly decent but I thought I'd blackout by the end of the 3 hours. Can't say I studied sh*t for it though. Ah well...I've started learning Mandarin. Just wow. Can't wait till I start getting the hang of the structure and start being able to write it. Will take some serious dedication.

sent off my finance a few months back but they had a huge backlog. My mum only got her p60s back last week. Still waiting to hear how much we get. Surely they'll let us know before we leave?Should be going to Sheffield all being well.

What influenced you to start learning Mandarin Ripster? I thought knowing more than 1 language fluently would help with employment opportunities overseas and I intended to learn Mandarin also but ended up learning Spanish instead lol
The language is so different to any other. It felt like a bit of a challenge to set myself so I went ahead with buying a few self-teach books. The characters are driving me crazy, as are all the different tonal levels. (Requires a completely different approach to learning than I've done with other languages before). I guess, though, persistence will pay off eventually eh....& Chinese culture is also pretty amazing. Would definitely say that's a partial reason as to why I wanted to learn it. Thought about either Cantonese or Mandarin, and seeing as Mandarin is the official state language, I went with that. I already know Russian so this was the next language that could, like you said, increase employability. But I doubt I'll become anywhere near good through teaching myself. So, if plans for uni were to fail *touch wood*, then I'll enrol in a university in China and learn there for, probably, one semester. Heard it's pretty intense, so I will have to think that one through!I haven't been able to find classes in London for Mandarin. Where/How are you learning Spanish?

ripster you should use Rosetta Stone, it has a sick progressional system. i'm pretty sure there's a Mandarin package, you can probably get it on warezbb.currently learning japanese with it. i haven't touched it in a while but i've got the pronunciation on lock and i'm on the road to stringing basic sentences together. although i've been thinking bout allowing it, learning how to read/write the characters plus perfecting the grammer, honorific speech and whatnot, is all a next hype and i won't lie, i'm not that dedicated.

What exactly does it do?What's in the package?
Rosetta Stone software is built around a concept called Dynamic Immersion, an unique learning method that uses a computer to mimic the ways in which you learnt your first language. This approach is simple, but incredibly effective as it allows your brain to adapt quickly as your knowledge grows. Our language courses are highly interactive and visually engaging and we'll never ask you to translate back into your native language or memorise vocabulary lists. Instead you'll learn through a complete immersion process. Relate what you see and hear to familiar, real-life images and situations. Practise and perfect your pronunciation against native speakers using our innovative voice recognition technology and receive immediate feedback to help consolidate and reinforce your learning. You’ll experience continuous progress and regular breakthroughs because our Adaptive Recall technology remembers language you find difficult initially and reintroduces it at optimal intervals during the course; helping you understand and retain language for use in the real world.

Good advice. At the moment Im trying to learn Dutch, it helps having a friend who is fluent. They point out your mistakes and correct the pronunciation.

I have friends out in Spain I would visit fairly regularly during my GCSE Spanish days which really helped, though 1 thing learning from native speakers is they will tend to be abit too colloquial to the point their grammar isn't exactly gospel (much like ours if someone were to learn english from us)Speaking to her (and her friends :Y: ) on MSN was definately a help also; it was a mutually beneficial situation in that she hoped to learn English while I wanted to get better at Spanish, so no 'wubu2' and 'kl' talkHoping to learn Spanish properly again, my strong suit was knowing alot of vocab and I've gradually lost alot of that knowledgeI recommend to anyone have an MSN contact who speaks a different language and who wants to learn English, I'm better my French the same way
