Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson is expected to hold talks over a move to Villa Park by the end of the week.Villa are battling it out with Middlesbrough for the 28-year-old, who is thought to be valued at around £5m by Spurs manager Juande Ramos. The Villa manager, Martin O’Neill has been keeping tabs on Robinson for some time, and, as revealed exclusively in last Wednesday’s Express & Star, the England international is keen on a move to the Second City to revive his flagging career. It is believed discussions over a transfer are imminent and all parties will be keen to tie up a deal as quickly as possible.Finding a new number one is a pressing matter for O’Neill with Villa’s first competitive fixture, their InterToto Cup away leg, little more than three weeks away.Stuart Taylor is the sole senior stopper currently on the club’s books following Scott Carson’s return to Liverpool and Thomas Sorensen’s release.Spurs are on the verge of completing the £10m capture of PSV’s Heurhelho Gomes, a move which signals the end of Robinson’s four-year stay at White Hart Lane. The north London club can still expect to make a tidy profit on the £1.5m they paid Leeds in 2004. Ironically, Robinson was keen to move to Villa Park then, only for the club to decide against a move.He is keen for a fresh start as he bids to force his way back into Fabio Capello’s England plans after recently being cast into the international wilderness. And O’Neill can offer the added incentive of a likely UEFA Cup campaign – something Boro boss and former Villa defender Gareth Southgate is unable to offer.Meanwhile, Sorensen could yet remain in the region with Stoke believed to be tracking the Dane along with Hull, another side preparing for their first season in the Barclays Premier League. However, it is believed any move for the former Sunderland keeper would hinge on him being guaranteed the number one jersey.
:( if you support Villa.

I'll give him a chance if it happens, but I'm a bit dissapointed.Boruc was and still is my preferred choice, but he's nailed on for Milan if they up their offer.Ah well, we finished 6th last season with an absolutely abysmal 'keeper for the second half, hopefully a fresh move for Robbo would get some sort of form back. And you can't argue with MON in the transfer market yet, hasn't spent too much and has got pretty much every transfer right. He might not buy brilliant individual players, but his ability to pick who and what he wants for part of his team is second to none.

Hmm...Where did Villa finish this season?Didnt one of MoN signings end up in the PL team of the year?
Exactly.People looked at our team from last season and think;"sh*t 'keeper""No right back""No natural goal scorer""A decent center midfield player who hasn't adjusted to the PL playing on the right""A natural center back playing left back""NRC who cant pass a parcel playing and being one of their best players"But in reality none of that matters when it comes down to results... And if MONs team of 'slightly improved cloggers' continues to be one of the top scoring teams in the league and we can continue to advance, I don't see what anyones fussed about.

I do still believe though that given a fresh start somewhere, Robbo will regain some of his previous form, and on his day can be a superb keeper, (check Man City away CC Cup quarters, where he pulled off 2 utterly world class saves to pretty much win us the game). He is a massive liability at the moment, especially from set pieces, hopefully MON and the coaching staff at Villa can help him on that, or it's a good lost 10 points because of him next season.

The positive thing about it seems to be, although theres no quotes, this is the first solid link with a 'keeper (bar Guzan who will play for us eventually but I don't think he's gonna be out number 1 yet) we've had this window. And there are 'keepers in better form who are gettable, So IF this is true, and we do sign him, it means MON's got his number 1 target, so he obviously is confident of getting the best out of him.I think we'll have 4 or 5 new players in the next 3-4 weeks, seeing as the first Intertoto game is in under a month.

In order of the time he signed them (i think);Petrov,Carew,Young,Maloney,Harewood,Reo Coker,Knight,Davies,SalifouRoutledgeRed = massive success' = total spend 24millionOrange = done exactly what they brought in to do/exceeded expectation = 8millionpink = underachieved, not been worth the money (but has improved) = 6.5millionwhite = not had a chance 1.25million (harewood could be in this list but he scores bare for his time on the pitch)
