Why do you think there was so many wars going on in belfast? It was the prosdents vs catholics. (Prosdents are mostly scottish/english decent) They wanted Ireland to be under British law! Northern Ireland is not apart of ireland anymore, its apart of the United Kindom. Just like scotland and wales. Though wales no longer wants to be british, they want to be independent, as do alot of scots.

99.9% of Irish people (Catholics) in Northern Ireland have IRISH (not British) passports. Anybody living in "Northern Ireland" is automatically eligible for an Irish passport/Irish citizenship. The Union Jack is nowhere to be seen in any Irish neighbourhood in Northern Ireland and would be burned on sight if somebody was stupid enough to put one up.If you were to ask any Catholic in "Northern" Ireland their nationality they would say Irish, not British.

It is basically about a difference in religion from the Republic.Lets not forget who shot Michael Colins when man was just trying to make Ireland one again.
