Ahhhh.£117 is a lot tho (edit - in a month, hmm, £29/week is still quite high for 16 hours work)http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/BeginnersGuideToTax/IncomeTax/Taxallowancesandreliefs/DG_078571that says for this financial year your tax free allowance is £6,475 so you shouldnt pay....income tax (i think) on annual earnings within this amount.thing is if your working on a temporary contract your employer wont bother to do this for youtax rebate? :D

nice1, on my payslip it says taxable pay to date is £3,176, so according to that sit it should be £6,475?!gonna phone up tax office and see what they say.But tbh taxman stays parring it, didn't give the majority of my emergency tax back in April.
this means you have earned 3k this tax year and you are allowed to earn another 3k (approx) when you hit that limit of 6,475 then they are allowed to tax you.You must be on some kind of emergency tax code, students shouldnt get taxed. keep your payslips and ring up HMRC and tell them your situation, they will explain what you need to do to get your tax refunded.

swear you dont pay taxes if you're a student
I don't know who told people this but it's not true. I was told this also.
sameif you're earning over a certain amount you always have to pay taxes - I don't think anything is ever dependent on whether you're a student or not in relation to taxes, except council taxhere's the thresholds anyway http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/rates-thresholds/archive.htm

I literally just did income tax at college last week. They didn't mention students once. You pay tax. I paid tax. Students are not exempt.http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/LifeAtUniversityOrCollege/DG_10035694Quote:

If you're a student and you have a job, you'll have to pay Income Tax and National Insurance if you earn over a certain amount. This still applies if you work abroad during your holidays, and if you're a foreign student working in the UK.

Argh nooooSo in February I decide to take the bendy bus to work. Now my thinking is that I jump the bus so regular for free that when they catch me it's a minor. Just pay the fine and keep it moving.I musta been mega tired that morning cos the only reason I get the bus to work instead of the train is so I can get that extra nap. Inspectors come on the bus, catch me snoozing and hit me with the fine. Minor right, except I didn't give them my current address, I gave them a family members address I used to stay at a few years ago. I musta been half asleep. So I visit that family member to see how there doing last month and they tell me I got bare letters.Son of a bitch, the letters are from debt collectors looking for £400 for fare evasion.Say it with me nowPISSED

At gandalf u can get out of it if the family send the letters back saying not at this address
Ok but I'm also told by others that if it's not paid it leaves a black mark on their yard wether I lived there or not.Obviously I don't know if that's true but if it is I can't have my f*ck ups effecting them.Plus it's in my name and its not about having all that against you. That shot come like baggage, it's just more stuff to carry.
