Cause it's based on the lunar calendar, our months start on the first sighting of a new moon, and ramadan is a an actual month.

So we start fasting at that point.

thing i dont get is people seem to go with the moon sightings of their country of origin instead of their current location

so you get people in the same cities celebrating eid on different days. well at least you do here usually arabs / asians are 1 day apart
