Arsenal have wrapped up the signing of defender Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla on a long-term contract.Sevilla confirmed earlier in the week that an undisclosed offer had been accepted for Squillaci and the France international was heading to Arsenal to undergo a medical. The 30-year-old has now finalised the move to Emirates Stadium to become Arsene Wenger's third signing of the summer.Wenger had been looking to improve his defensive options, particularly at centre-back, after losing William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos since the end of last season.Laurent Koscielny has been brought in from Lorient and further depth has been added to the Gunners' back-line with the acquisition of Squillaci. The former Lyon centre-half will also be eligible for Arsenal's UEFA Champions League campaign after pulling out of Sevilla's play-off tie against Braga. However, Squillaci is unlikely to make his Gunners debut until after the international break as he will not be involved against Blackburn in the Premier League on Saturday.Wenger confirmed: "We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - he was all of that."He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well."I believe he will be suited to the English game."He will train with us tomorrow morning, but will not be involved on Saturday."In addition to Koscielny and Squillaci, Gunners boss Wenger has signed Marouane Chamakh this summer and reportedly remains in the market for a new goalkeeper.

"We are where we are – we have four great keepers and it is important we give confidence to them for the next game," Wenger said. "I do not rule it out, but at the moment I say I am not in a position to sign anybody. At the moment, it is all dead."use it should stop when the championship starts for domestic transfers, internationally it should go on until 31 August because not everybody starts at the same time," he said.
hmm.I don't think this new keeper is happening to be honest. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/26/arsenal-sign-sebastien-squillaci

Turned 30 about 2 weeks ago, 3 year deal. We gave Silvestre 2 years at 31. IMo if your contract ruins out at Arsenal when you 30-31, Wenger let that happened on purpose cos he dont rate you, as he usually designs contracts to run out at 32-33./Wenger definitely DID NOT say there will be no more #Arsenal signings. Just bizarre answer where he contradicted himself. 1 more to come... about 3 hours ago via web Talksport been reporting slack recently./

Wenger back tracks on his over-30's policyArsene Wenger last night completed the £3m signing of Sebastien Squillaci - and then changed his own over-30s rule.Arsenal boss Wenger will also complete a move for Fulham’s 37-year-old keeper Mark Schwarzer before the transfer window closes.Squillaci, 30, has signed a three-year contract while Schwarzer has been offered a two-year deal which is at odds with Wenger’s previous insistence that any player over 30 will not be given any more than a 12 month extension. That rule has been applied to the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Jens Lehmann and even ended up with Tottenham’s new signing William Gallas, 33, leaving this summer because he wanted more than one year. But Wenger appeared to move his own goalposts yesterday as he welcomed Squillaci and also has a £3m deal set up for Schwarzer after a summer-long transfer tug-of-war with Fulham.Wenger said: “It’s not over 30, its over 32. So when you give a player one year contract after 32 he will just get a one year contract.“That’s always been the case. It depends on the positions as well. With central defenders it’s no problem for them to sign until they are 34.“But a striker is different - after 32 you go from year to year. Midfielder as well after 32 you go from year to year. I’m not a big fan of over-30s, you know!”Wenger has gone for Squillaci after moves for Everton’s Phil Jagielka and Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker became too expensive. But Wenger left room with his comments for one more signing - which will be Schwarzer. The Gunners boss believes his deal with Sevilla for the French international defender will be good business because Squillaci is competitive and will be suited to the Premier League.Wenger said: “The transfer market has been incredibly difficult, I must say. It’s the first year it’s been this bad.“The clubs who had players didn’t want to sell and therefore there was no movement. I don’t know if it’s the 25 player squad rule, or the money situation? Just no movement. It’s dead.“I do not rule it (more signings) out, but at the moment I say I am not in a position to sign anybody. At the moment, it is all dead.“We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - Squillachi is all of that. We signed him for 4million Euros.“He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals from set-peices as well. I believe he will be suited to the English game. He will train with us on Friday morning, but will not be involved on Saturday.”French defender Laurent Koscielny returns from suspension and will partner Tomas Vermaelen at Blackburn tomorrow. Brazilian midfielder Denilson is also back in the squad.Wenger also backed Theo Walcott to come through last weekend’s jibes from Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen who claimed the 21-year-old does not have a “football brain” - despite scoring a hat trick against Blackpool.Wenger said: “It was a one-day performance but I believe personally that Theo has the quality to repeat those kind of performances and that is what he has to show on the football pitch.“I have seen so many great players in my life. They have all been questioned, all. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney has been questioned at 20, Zidane had been questioned at 20. But that is down to the players to answer on the pitch with their performance.“Theo has a quality, apart from football qualities, he is mentally strong, he is fit on the ground, he is intelligent. He was unlucky many times with long-term injuries but it helped him to mature as well.“At 17 if you go to a World Cup there is a lot of hype around you and you have to deal with that. I feel that he dealt with that very well.“For the rest, if you are fit on the ground and fit on earth, turn up on Saturday and have a great game and that is the best way to get everybody on board."

Mark Schwarzer deal is going to go like this...Arsenal haven't bidded agian this week and wont again until deadline day probably...Fulham haven't tried to engage in talks or seeked to find a replacement... Like they have at LB.On deadline day we will open talks again & be prepared to match everything Fulham orginally asked for 2 months ago...Fulham officials will be prepared to do the deal, but Hughes will shut it down as he wont have time to replace him as we get closer to 5pm...

Couldn't find anywhere to put these...

Charlton youngster Carl Jenkinson has rejected a new contract and could be poised for a dream summer move to Arsenal. The 19-year-old left-back recently broke into Chris Powell's first team but now looks set to leave The Valley at the end of the season with his performances having reportedly caught the eye of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger."We've worked hard to convince Carl that he would be a key figure in Chris Powell's plans going forward," chairman Michael Slater told the club's official website."But regrettably Carl will not sign the contract and has indicated he wishes to leave the club at the end of the season."Having been with the club for 11 years and recently described his run of games in the first team as 'a dream come true', it is a real shame that he appears to have decided his future lies elsewhere."Better news for the Add*cks is that 20-year-old right-back Chris Solly has agreed a new two-year deal.
Arsenal have agreed to sign Hertha BSC defender Leander Siemann following a trial. The German centre back will complete the transfer in the summer.Siemann joined Arsenal on trial in February, as Young Guns. A regular for Hertha's Under 16s, he was set to leave the club in the summer, to spend a year in London studying. However, a family friend recommended him to Liam Brady, and the 15-year-old impressed during a week long training stint. The six foot two inch youngster is noted for his powerful and physical approach. At home at either centre or right back, Leander has signed a three-year-contract, and told German agency, Bild, that the move is a dream come true.Arsenal have agreed a compensation package worth €250,000.

Botelho has a year left on his deal, or it could even be up, and I think he gonna play in midfield, then again with Wenger you never know...I was under the impression that Clichy has just stalled on signing his deal, I think he saw what Nasri was being offered and the way Nasri is allowed to not have to sign it till the season done and has pumped the breaks on his too, thinking why they moving the earth for him but not me.TBH if Arsenal win nothing, the only thing going for Clichy is his fee representing good value more than his actual performances if scouting. That said Clichy has improved in the last few weeks which is always ominous. Most places saying Celtic's Emilio Izaguirre is the player we have identified.

Sky Italia: Wenger mulling over Buffon optionAuthor: Ben Moss - Posted on:24 March 2011 - 13:56http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/51 ... tion_.aspxAccording to Sky Italia, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering a move for reputed Manchester United target Gianluigi Buffon. The 33-year-old has been perpetually linked with a move to the Premier League for the best part of 18-months, and with Juventus languishing well shy of Serie A’s Champions League places, the aforementioned source suggests Arsene Wenger could make a play to bring the World Cup winning custodian to England in the summer. The player’s agent earlier in the week echoed Buffon’s recent sentiments that he was not looking to leave Juve, but reports in the Italian media continue to suggest the Serie A star could be on the move in the summer. Despite the constant speculation, Buffon told Football Italia: “Now it's useless talking about the transfer market. There are more interesting things to think about. There are eight games left and we have to try and honour Juventus until the end of this season. We have to finish in a decent way, hopefully making up a few positions. We're so far from the title race that we can't have any regrets. We are thinking about ourselves and finishing in the best way."Buffon is rumoured to be on Sir Alex Ferguson’s shortlist of goalkeepers to replace Edwin Van der Sar at the end of the season, but a number of other players have been more consistently linked with the Red Devils in recent weeks, most notably Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea. Sky Italia suggest Juventus may cash in on their long serving veteran at the end of the season in order to help fund a major overhaul of their ageing squad, and intimate Arsene Wenger is amongst the player’s many admirers.
