Vermaelen's performances against good players has always been questionable, but against lesser teams he has beasted/scored goals and been consistent. Being that there are fewer good players in the Prem season by season, he isn't the biggest concern.

Ive always been wary of Vermaelen but tbh its what we have been saying for years about the team not defending well enough as a unit.. hes a very good player, one bad game doesnt change this

we play with 3 central midfielders yet how many times do we see Song outnumbered when the opposition attack, while the supporting cast nonchalanty jog back to "help" smh

Agree with Anelka, the defending is terrible. The pressuring is terrible too. Everyone just jogs when the opposite team has the ball when they should be pressuring them into making a mistake.
