My guess is it stems from being overlooked yourself as a footballer in favour of players you thought were technically inferior to yourself and less knowledgeable about the game. I understand these kind of guys are needed but i hate them with a passion. These kind of players are the reason english football is so far behind other nations. Players like darren bent who have no technical ability and offer nothing to the team except goals. Manager will leave them on the pitch for 80 mins just on the off chance a half chance will fall to them.
