NextGen Statement - 16th August 2013
It is with regret that the NextGen Series has today announced it will be suspending the tournament for one season due to a lack of definite funding.
Over the past two seasons NextGen has played a major part in the development of European football and has enjoyed great success with many NextGen players including Celtic's Tony Watt, Villa's Gary Gardner and Ajax's Viktor Fischer progressing to their first teams.
Mark Warburton and Justin Andrews, Co-founders of the NextGen Series said:
"The level of support we have received from the football industry, media and fans has been magnificent and for that we are truly grateful. It is hugely disappointing that an event of this nature, designed to assist with the development of Europe's elite players, should have to take such action but we hope to be back next season with an even better tournament!"
smh, fifa could of invested in this, but they just wanna run with their own 'youth champions league'

It's actually disgusting that with the amount of money in the game a tournament like this is being suspended for lack of funding.
Disgraceful.
Generous Beattie dips into his own pocket to pay Accrington's tax bill to save new club from transfer embargo
James Beattie has paid Accrington Stanley’s tax bill out of his own pocket to save the League Two club from a transfer embargo.
Accrington have promised to pay Beattie back after he offered to foot the bill which is believed to run into tens of thousands of pounds.
But it underlines the former England striker’s commitment to his first job in management after he took over at the Crown Ground in May.
The FA would have hit Accrington with an embargo if they had failed to pay their debts, but Beattie was able to complete the signing of former Rangers forward Kal Naismith in time for last weekend’s televised game against Portsmouth.
The 35-year-old former Southampton striker, who cost a total of £15million in transfer fees during his career, admitted to cleaning the toilets before Accrington played his old club Everton in a pre-season friendly earlier this month.
In a world where so many people seem to be trying to take money out of football, Beattie’s generosity is rare but by no means unique.
Peter Reid dipped into his own pocket to pay the electricity bill when he was manager of Plymouth, and also auctioned off his 1985 FA Cup loser’s medal to raised money for the cash-strapped club.
Kevin Blackwell helped to fund some of his players’ mortgage payments when Luton went into administration in 2007, and Paolo Di Canio offered £50,000 of his own money so Swindon could keep their loan signings.
In 2010, former England goalkeeper David James arranged for Portsmouth’s players to pay the wages of eight training ground staff who had been made redundant by administrators.
Good stuff.

Not really, its being suspended because UEFA are bringing in their own youth tournament with only youth in teams in the CL participating.
Both tournaments can't really co exist though.
Exactly its disgracul the way fifa and uefa have monopolised football

trust nextgen was about showcasing and giving youth players a chance to play on a european stage.
a fifa tournement will just be about rinsing sponsors, the fact they are trying to give it the champions league branding proves this.
Sepp and some fifa officials probably walked in to the next gen offices on a 90s Bill Gates tip like
Sochaux vs OL
Pen for Sochaux
