The Greatest 'Overlooked' Uk Garage Tracks

also,

i don't wanna piss on anyones bbq or nuffin but them Platinum 45 tracks are straight trash and a perfect example of where garage fell off right before grime fully found it's feet

sayin that tho Oi is certified and i wuld never doubt its power

This is a certified post, at least partially.

Without taking the thread on a detour, it just reminded me of the old debates that used to happen on old Uptown Records forums about 8 bar, right around the time Oi! was bubbling....

I noticed it with the HLC/PAUG clash from Destiny's. Even before the full recording dropped, I remember playing the shitty 64kbs version of the clash off my Nokia 5510 in the school playground...All the guys who thought they were badboys backed Wiley and Gift, while a lot of the more blessed people (and the girls) were backing Heartless..

When the full tape dropped and you heard the set PAUG had before Ace started the 'chuck it and we'll done it' talk, there was like one random Misteeq Sunship remix, but BARE dark 8 bar tunes. Them times Slimzee was championing all them minimal Jon E Cash/Zinc/Narrows kinda tunes, while Fonti was more on the Crisp Biscuit ting, providing that Room 1/Room 2 experience in one set. HLC came from the old school angle that the godfather figures in the scene came from - play tunes for the chicks and the mandem are bless. I can remember Fonti dropping 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' by Kylie Minogue on one tape

I think promoters could see the split coming, and Wiley knew that there was an audience for the hype clash lyrics ting - and nobody needs melodies, choruses and vocals for clash bars, you need instrumental with a basic structure. I think to an extent So Solid were partly to blame for the split in the sense that they brought the focus onto MCs, and popularized the 'crew' format.

That said, has anyone ever heard Wiley on a Garage Nation tape? I only ever heard Wiley on Sidewinder tapes mainly...couple Sun City tapes...but it seemed like they faced a bit of a blackballing with the more traditional heads in the scene..

It's 6am and I'm zoned, but that's my two pennies! Bless

big post

but let's be real HLC rode ukg til the wheels fell off

felt like them times when garage nation and exposure were done ukg was just outposted to some milton keynes type ends and i was like nah

i remember going to ministry to see 'Roll Deep' (or at least thats how they billed it)

ended up being just Bionics LOLOL and a bunch of random MCs, Titch, Tinchy, J2K, Ghetto, Mr. f*ckIN WONG FFS

this must've been 04 times maybe and when we walked in they were playing UKG but at that time Grime was really doing it and the UKG was just sounding dated in the raves

of course it's very fitting now and ukg sounds fresh again i reckon

but i think the moral of the story is it's a funny old game

That was one of my grips with UKG, the 'top guys' were moaning about the dark stuff. but instead of being innovative and start making new tracks what had that original feel people started playing f*cking old school tracks KMT. I know we had qualified making ukg big producer but I didnt really feel his sound, and many of the other guys were poor todd edwards rip off. Only tracks to me what could stand up to those old tracks which were new was Dem 2 -Luv's Hard, DnD Down 4 U remix and Scandalous unlimited/True Tiger watford weather and a few others. No one was really making/breaking tunes. That's why I agree with what Greens is saying about what tracks were doing the rounds remember baby cakes and raise it up

Then people used that excuse grimey/ 8 bar sound brings violence well that myth was kicked out of the window when the shooting happened at Back to 95 in Aquarium, bit of the same kind of thing happening with people saying shufflers bring mood to house nights. Nope people with mental illness bring trouble, someone has something wrong with them if you are planning a night out to enjoy yourself and you have bring a gun with you to do this.

Grime has a whole load of crazy mad sh*t being said in a dance but you rarely see trouble at the dances. But essentially new grime tracks are always played only dance you would really here old school grime is eski dance, radio shows is more or less always fresh music similar to house music and various other scenes. Even allot of the garage shows now is still a sh*t load of stuff made 15 years ago. The guys who complain are the ones who killed garage IMO

So as I said earlier these are my three entries

More of these type of tracks should of been pushed when grimey sound was dominating instead of relying on tracks from years ago

Jeremy Sylvester Lost tapes

Introducing: Jeremy Sylvester - Lost Tapes - Volume 1

All Lost Tapes records were recorded back in the late 90s/early 2000, hidden away on old DAT tapes in a dark cellar, untouched and unheard until now! Lost Tapes is an exciting series, full of UKG vibes, with flavor that will have even the modest of ravers two-stepping on the dance floor!

Volume 1 of the Lost Tapes series contains 3 striking records, “Mainline”, “Baby Got It Going On” & “Lets Bounce”, each possessing timeless appeal!

“Mainline” is a typical Jeremy Sylvester bumpy 4x4 Garage sound, reminiscent of his early Nice n Ripe days! Expect some crisp, tight beats, this one is sure to have huge support!

“Baby Got it Going on” is Jeremy’s early 2 step productions, now re-mastered with extra bass frequencies for a more completed fuller sound. You’ve been warned; this is tailor-made for the dance-floor!

“Lets Bounce” is pure underground shoulder popping 2 step Garage, made around the same time as Jeremy's popular 'Making Love' tune in late 90s/early 2000! As the name suggests, this one is sure to get you pumped!

yeah he was Narrows' 'engineer', but the word is he was responsible for the bangers like saved soul, legacy & dreams...

can tell its true because when they split ways morph was still making bangers and the narrows productions were absolute fraff and didnt resemble the early stuff one bit.

Yeah I was listening to some narrows track on youtube didnt have the same quality as his previous body of work

Think Footsie does something similar I was watching some interview about his old tracks and he said he tells a next man to make and build his sounds to how he wants it. Some executive producer business. Just hope I heard wrong
