That offer them your house line is so dumb tho

Rented out an apartment for the weekend in the countryside, management said its been a slow summer and they dont normally do short term lets but they have so many spare, imagine how people bang on about housing shortage in this country and there are perfectly nice places sitting empty for 3/4 of the year.

Why is it dumb? All of these people who love to do activism on the cheap, by signalling their virtue on social media, should put their money where their mouth is. I expect them to logically consistent, and to lead by example.

It's very easy to sign a petition online trying to get the government and other people to do something.

Well there is a housing shortage, that is undeniable. Hardly anyone can earn a living while residing in the countryside. There isn't enough housing stock in the countryside to overcome shortages anyway.

The housing shortage is all one big money laundering flip, its only there on paper not like that in reality, but thats a different argument for a different day.

/

If the government use peoples taxes to pay for some 16 year olds flat then why cant they do the same for warn torn refugees who apply through the right channels ? There are plenty of city center apartments almost always availible all year round throughout the country.... ( i know some insurers also do this to some people in "extreme" housing situations).

Such a bug fuss about 4k refugees when there are 2.3m economic eu migrants in this country and last year 250k fresh ones entered with a big smile using wizzair

I disagree, this country is extremely overcrowded. Especially in the South-East, and major metropolitan centres, where most migrants would like to settle. This country cannot take a net migration rate of over 300,000 every year.

Those properties are privately held. Are you proposing the Government seieze them? Or that Government (Meaning us) pay the market rate to house some migrants in those unoccupied properties?

Because in the first place they are not refugees, they are migrants, economic migrants. The father of the young lad who died has gone back to Kobane. The whole family lived in Turkey for three years, supported by family living in Canada. He only wanted to come to Europe to access some dental health, and then go on to Canada. He wasn't exaclty fleeing ISIS for the past three years was he?

Why are the vast majority of the people we see men. Are they fleeing places so bad that they had to leave behind their wives and daughters and sisters?

Precisely, they have not applied through the right channels have they? They are just looking to go to the most genenours countries.

Charity begins at home. They are hundred of thousands of people on waiting lists to get social housing. Should an economic migrant who has skipped Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Germany and France get priority over a British citizen?

They are not economic migrants they are refugees. they have not 'skipped' greece and germany or macedonia either or Turkey there are refugees in all the countries you have mentioned, just that many have chosen to move elsewhere.

stupid media rhetoric.

You keep voting for leaders that rush off to war because that keeps your pension pot runnning, and your cars having cheap oil

then you should not cry go back home when the spoils of your wars comes back to source., The US who is the instigator of most of the recent crisis everywhere in the world in the last 50 years is safe across the atlantic with not ONE refugee in sight. PMSL

and if the govt take in these people they wont be touching the posh areas, they will go to the Newhams to join the rest other paki rats to further overcrowd an already overstretched social crisis.

What stupid rhetoric? They have skipped those countries. How can you deny that? They want to come Germany, Sweden and and the UK because of the economic pull of these comparatively generous welfare states, not because they are fleeing from war. If war broke out in the UK, and everybody fled to mainland europe, and instead of embarking to perfectly safe scandinavia, france, the low countries and ireland, we skipped these countries to get the most generous country in the continent - lets says greece- what would you say?

I didn't vote for any of these clowns

"Syria conflict: Ministers to 'argue for UK military action"

See what has developed in the past 24 hrs. It's quite disturbing to see how everyone can be so easily manipulated by the media.

Exactly but is that a good thing? No european country can hope to successfully integrate such a large number of people, who have a completely different culture. So they'll become ghettoized, like most muslim groups in western europe. And then when something kicks off, the govt. will use it as an excuse to take our civil liberties.

Jordan has taken in 1.5 million refugees

They're population, minus refugees is 6 million.

Tell me again how the UK is overcrowded please

What Jordan does has no bearing on whether the UK is overcrowded or not. The UK is one of the most densely populated country in the world.

Jordan are not allowing Syrians to work, are keeping refugees in camps, and are definitely not going to allow these syrians to integrate into Jordanian society because it will upset the delicate internal dynamics of the Jordanian state.

It's understandable why the Jordanians are acting in such way. One only has to remember their experience with taking in a multitude of Palestinians

Comon do you really think this guy spent all his savings on putting himself and his family on a shitty little boat just to get some dental work?

And he wasnt spending his savings. He was being financially supported by relatives in Canada. He was living fine in Turkey for three years.

Yea and...? This video doesnt say he came to fix his teeth unless youre dumb enough to interpret it that way.

The woman clearly said she wanted them to come to canada, she said she couldnt get the 14k to him to fix his teeth, she said her and her husband suggested they should go to europe where they'd have a better life AND he can get his teeth fixed.

1. Well no the end goal for him and his family was to get to Canada.

2. The point of getting to europe was to access some dental care in the meanwhile.

3. They were not refugees but economic migrants. They were not running away from anything (they had been living in comfortably in Turkey for three years).

Living comfortably is a retired brit going to spain, this family has had to leave their country cos of war, they may have been safe and were lucky to have support from foreign relatives, but they are still refugees.

No they became economic migrants the moment they decided to make a foolhardy journey to access Europe's welfare states. Their lives were not in danger in Turkey, and they were not living in refugee camps in Turkey. The man is back in his home town now

That doesn't really answer his question, does it?

Swear Jordan was made between 1940-1960, not sure of the dates

For thousands of years Jordan was part of Syria and Palestine called Sham.

They're more or less the same people. So, how is it affecting them taking in their cousins who more or less share the same culture and history.

There are billions of people who live in shitty conditions on this planet. He had a job as a barber and was supported by family in Canada. He paid 4000 euros to some people traffickers to get his family to greece.
