  1. if your work is interesting then its really easy to be super efficient when you're out of the office if its boring then its super easy to be distracted I've generally liked my colleagues so its been easy to go to work in the past. But I'm more efficient at home.
  2. Oxford Circus wasn't actually bad. The streets seemed way more packed with tourists than I'd expect. But the stores didn't seem more busy than usual.

  7. A Statue of Gandhi Has Been Removed From the University of Ghana Following Student Protests https://www.okayafrica.com/statue-of-gandhi-racist-removed-torn-down-university-of-ghana-student-protests/ basically, a few years back some South African professors published a book that revealed Gandhi had racist opinions of black people https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2015/09/03/what-did-mahatma-gandhi-think-of-black-people/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.6136c4d57a46 so the Ghanaians don't want a statue of him hanging about good on them

Facebook is smart enough to have purchased the next platform by the time that happens. Imagine. The same company owns Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Snap Inc and Twitter are good competitors and both still hold a reasonable size of the market. But it just feels like they're producing products to be duplicated by the giant.
  9. its an opportunity politicians take to hold the country hostage "for the sake of the country" American politics are wild. A lot of what Republicans talk about wouldn't go anywhere near the mouths of British Conservative Party politicians.
  10. apparently costs the US economy something like $1 billion a day when it shuts down
  11. Code Institute has a free 5 day challenge for people getting into it https://codeinstitute.net/5-day-coding-challenge/
  12. 50% of the devs at my new workplace are from this school in Paris called 42 which is basically a free coding school where everyone learns by themselves, without tutors, having to figure out solutions with each other, but are given all the resources to do so - they're all pretty decent
  13. anyone done root canal whitening? they fucked up patching my root canal as a younger so I have 1 tooth that's darker/yellower than the others - was meant to get something done years ago but never got around to it
  14. Purchased a Philips Sonicare DiamondClean in May 2015, it was dead by March 2017, replaced under warranty (was just within the 2 year) and it died today. £100 for 3.5 years (+ maybe £50 in heads) I guess is decent. But I really dislike how apparent the planned obsolescence feels. Any new recommendations?
  15. if you check the update it says that someone from GoFundMe is making sure it gets to his family

  18. My mum's friend, like 60 years old, actually actually just got her passport recently. Her dad brought her from Jamaica. She's been here her whole life and never had one granted, she did apply in the past, especially for her kids, but she was involved in protesting for black rights in the past (which I think she was arrested during and thus could be seen as a criminal) so didn't want to rock the boat by making a noise about her entitlement for fear of being thrown out. It was just this recent push in the media that gave her confidence to make demands, even then it was hell to deal with apparently.
