My mum's friend, like 60 years old, actually actually just got her passport recently. Her dad brought her from Jamaica. She's been here her whole life and never had one granted, she did apply in the past, especially for her kids, but she was involved in protesting for black rights in the past (which I think she was arrested during and thus could be seen as a criminal) so didn't want to rock the boat by making a noise about her entitlement for fear of being thrown out. It was just this recent push in the media that gave her confidence to make demands, even then it was hell to deal with apparently.
