Luka Modric has stepped up his rehabilitation by appearing in a training ground friendly. The Tottenham midfielder has been sidelined since suffering a fractured fibula in the Premier League game against Birmingham back in August. It was initially hoped that he would be back in action after just six weeks but it has taken longer than expected for him to return to fitness. The Croatian has been making good progress more recently and started to train with Spurs' youth team towards the end of last month. He is now closing in on a first-team comeback after coming through 70 minutes of a friendly against Grays Athletic on Tuesday.Development coach Clive Allen was delighted to see the talented schemer play his part in a 5-2 victory over the Blue Square Premier side at Spurs Lodge."It was great to see Luka back," Allen told the club's official website."He worked hard in the game, he needed the match practice and I'm sure it will bring him on a great deal."SSN

BRAZILIAN midfielder Sandro's move to Tottenham has moved a step closer with the player arriving in London to undergo a medical. Although the official line from his agents is that he is on holiday with his family, it is believed the Internacional ace is finalising his switch to Spurs. His club appear resigned to losing the talented South American, even though they had hoped to keep him for the Copa Libertadores, as they have already lined up Wilson Mathias as a replacement. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy warned that Harry Redknapp would have to balance the books in January regarding any transfer business so there are likely to be outgoings to offset the expenditure. Sandro, 20, will cost in the region of £7million and has been described as a "modern-day midfield player" by Redknapp. Tottenham are in action against Wolves on Saturday and Redknapp will hope to wrap the transfer up in time for Sandro to make his debut in the New Year when the transfer window reopens.
