Failed at Arsenal and Chelsea? That's news to me. From what I recall Diarra wasn't happy playing second fiddle to the best holding midfielder in the world at the time (Makelele) and wasn't prepared to wait for first team football. As for Arsenal, they were desperate to hang on to him but again, he wasn't happy being behind Flamini in the pecking order. He was also only 19-20 at the time so wasn't the finished product, which he is now. I would rate him as one of the top 5 defensive midfielders in Europe these days.

From the Mirror, an excerpt from a Modric leaving article....

But Benoit Assou-Ekotto is far from fazed by the task at Old Trafford. So much so that he can barely remember the names of the Red Devils’ summer signings. While the rest of English football sat up when United bought Ashley Young (below), Phil Jones and David De Gea, Assou-Ekotto barely noticed. The Spurs full-back is not even bothered by the fact that his club have failed to win any of their last 24 meetings with United. He still believes they are there to be shot at.Assou-Ekotto said: “What’s his name? Yeah, Ashley Young. We used to play against him when he was at Aston Villa and we did all right.“So it will be the same against Manchester United. He’s not better just because he has changed club.“Young and Nani are good players but they are still human. I really don’t care who I will play against.”He should. Spurs’ last victory over United was a 3-1 success in May 2001 at White Hart Lane. And it is 22 years since Tottenham last won at Old Trafford – a 1-0 victory in December 1989.Despite Spurs’ simple Europa League win at Hearts, Assou-Ekotto knows tonight will be very different. He added: “I wish it would be so easy against United but it won’t. They have some injured players and I hope this helps us.”Uncertain new keeper De Gea is without the experienced Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in front of him as both are injured. But Assou-Ekotto added: “The problem with Manchester is even when they miss some players and when they don’t play well, they are still good.”He believes, however, that Spurs will target nervous De Gea.“For sure, we will try to use this problem. But he will have a good defender in front of him in Vidic.’’Reminded that Vidic is out, he added: “Well, then we will do it!”

LOL at Lass failingbutI think he has the ability to win the ball and give a quick short pass to your playmaker the problem is ever since he started wearing the #10 shirt at Madrid he thinks he is some kind of f*cking rock 'n roll star. He dwells on the ball way too long which slows everything down and then tries to make a complicated pass and gives it away. He is definitely not better than Sandro IMO. This mostly seems like 'Arry getting back another one of his Portsmouth old boys. He will win a lot of balls but the problems come after that.

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of abandoning their legal battle to take over the 2012 Olympic Stadium after the Games, BBC London can reveal. The club was due in the High Court on Wednesday seeking a judicial review over the Olympic Park Legacy Company's choice to hand the stadium to West Ham.But Spurs were involved in intense negotiations with the office of London Mayor Boris Johnson on Tuesday night. They are close to striking a deal to build a new stadium in north London."If these negotiations are concluded successfully as expected, the appeal will be dropped," a senior government source told the BBC.This month's riots in north London have played a major role in persuading the club that they need to stay in Tottenham.Spurs have been looking for government and mayoral support for their plans for a bigger ground at a site in Northumberland Park, near White Hart Lane, for several months.Businesses in the area would have been hit hard if the club had moved away. The club realises that it is an integral part of rebuilding the area after the riots.Any deal with the mayor is expected to involved public funding, which Mr Johnson has already said he supports.Continue reading the main storyLondon 2012 - Begin your journey hereLondon 2012: Latest Olympic news, sport, features and programmes from the BBCSpurs had plans to develop the Northumberland Park site approved by the mayor in 2010 but escalating costs turned their focus towards taking over the Olympic Stadium in Stratford. Some fans staged a protest about the proposed move to east London, saying they wanted their club to remain in Tottenham.Spurs have played at White Hart Lane since 1899.Tottenham had already applied to the government's Regional Growth Fund for a grant to cover costs which would be associated with moving to Northumberland Park. They include upgrading public transport and providing training and employment opportunities for local people.Tottenham were struggling to win their legal battle with Olympic chiefs. A High Court judge had already turned down the club's first appeal for a judicial review. If the club now drops the second appeal, West Ham can go ahead with their plans to move into the Olympic Stadium by 2014.This would secure the legacy of the most high-profile venue at the Olympic Park and boost London's hopes of staging the 2017 World Athletics Championships.
:D we need this ASAP.
