Its not looked down upon its just a majority of people prefer watching the flashy players cutting open defences and skills down the wings etc. I personally rate the defensive mids that come through and show there talent cause its not an easy thing to do in this day and age in football. pretty much. If your a ballwinner and nothing else then your a limited player, same as a defender with good heading abillity or a striker with pace. Out and out DMs only work in a 3 or 5 man midfield.

you have to be able to read the game and position yourself mate. The likes of essien, Flammini, gattuso, hargreeves etc. are more box to box so instead of having great positioning they just have engines and get in peoples faces - i prefer this type of player to your makaleles, M.diarras and Mascheranos.
