The reserves were in action earlier on versus Sunderland

King, Tunnicliffe, Morrison, Norwood, Bebe across midfield with Obertan playing down the middle as the striker. Pogba was on the bench.

Was a bit odd, maybe preparing King for left wing role if needed for senior team a bit how Welbeck and Macheda have been deployed there in past. King did well, showed good pace. Wasn't too impressed with Bebe and Obertan, both looked clumsy. But then out of nowhere Bebe played it to Obertan, Bebe received it again and broke the deadlock with a good finish from inside right of the box.

2 defensive errors in each half allowed Sunderland to take the lead, 2nd goal was a good finish after the centrebacks did a bit of Smalling and Brown defending. In all honesty Sunderland were impressive for about 70 mins, pressed well and gave the United team no time on the ball.

Joyce made a sub after Sunderland took the lead, brought on Pogba for Bebe and Petrucci for Brown - quite attacking. Tunnicliffe went to right back. Pogba added more strength to midfield along with his passing threat while Petrucci was more of a creative threat, he was brilliant, he definitely changed the game in favour of United. He was also unlucky not to get the winner, went in for a brave 50/50 after keeper spilled a Morrison shot and it went just wide.

He stayed down for a bit after that which was worrying but showed bravery in going for that despite just coming back from a long term injury.

Just before that I think it was cos of him we got the equaliser, on the right he did well to win a corner, from the resulting corner Obertan got a flick on and King with a easy header to make it 2-2.

Tunnicliffe was decent, made a few good driving runs and showed good strength but was not at his best.

Wasn't an amazing performance overall but last 20 mins we coulda nicked a 3-2 win. Norwood played well, Obertan was disappointing yet got 2 assists, Bebe was marked out the game, 2 players closed him down everytime he got on the ball but he still scored, think they were afraid of his pace, put in a good couple crosses but we had Obertan down the middle and wasn't gonna get on the end of them. The pair of them are still very hit and miss, definitely not ready for first team.

King showed signs he could do a job for the first team if called upon. Petrucci last 20 mins was very, very good, amazed how a player out for so long looked so comfortable. Morrison had a quiet game for his standards.

In defence Gill and Wooton were ordinary, their mistake cost a goal. Vermijl, had a good game was getting up trying to help King as much as he could and Brown tried the same but Bebe just wasn't able to keep the ball long enough for him to get up in support.

Devlin was good in goal, neitehr of the goals were his fault and made a vital save in dying seconds which would have won Sunderland the game.

Oh and every Sunderland player is a Jordan!

Swear they all name their kids Jordan on Tyneside?

Jordan Henderson. Jordan Cook. Jordan Pickford. Jordan Watson. Jordan Laidler. Jordan Lavender.

Not all were playing but about 4 of them played some part. None of the Sunderland first teamers were involved btw.

I don't know why there's such a movement to prove carrick is good. Why are guys in the media and the stats gurus all acting like carrick is their mum and someone called her a slag.

The main reason is because 90% of united fans seem to think hes sh*t (or at least 'not good enough for united'), which is stupid.

Fletcher and Gibson have been worse than Carrick this season yet Carrick still seems to be the main target for abuse? I dont get it.

Hes always been slated by certain fans for not 'grabbing hold of the game' etc etc but now the slating is getting unnecessarily excessive. Too much bandwagon jumping imo.

hes been sh*t for a very long time.

I even took the liberty of searching what i myself have said about carrick, considering i was a fan of his the fact things i was saying about him 2 years ago still apply now show that hes lost it. This is one of those ones he cant turn back. hes not good enough for united or england

carrick isnt under rated, in fact i think hes crimianlly over rated.

IMO hes simply not united quality and SAF should not have shelled out so much for him.

He was bought as a 1st choice starting central midfielder and on that assumption he should be on the same level as the other top 4 1st choice cms Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas. But hes not. never will be and theres not even an argument like on his day hes better than those 3 because he simply isnt. TBH hes not even on a par with most of their partners. People could easily argue that Essien, Ballack and alonso (when he was at pool) are also far better than him.

For a club of united's stature who are the best in england and arguably best in europe. He doesnt cut it as the centre piece of the midfield. I would even go as far as saying that darron gibson will take his place soon and he'll be on his way

lol @ Carrick being overrated, just lol.

on his day he's one of the best midfielders in England, without a doubt.

/

at the moment he's low on confidence and doesn't seem to be able to 'boss' games still.

when he does play he's always looking for that 'hollywood' pass to impress and more often then not it never comes off.

and with Fletcher hitting the best form of his career its looking daunting for him. plus Hargo on the way back, Gibbo and Ando gettin' games etc etc.

but i reckon with games and patience he'll be back to his 06-08 days.

this is exactly what i mean "on his day" peter crouch can bang a hat trick and show technique equal to most of the best players on the planet doesnt mean he should pull on a united shirt in a hurry.

the thing that annoys me most is its not a talent thing. cos in some areas of his game carrick is absolutely SHOWER. its his mentality that lets him down IMO. its like he doesnt want to be THAT guy. The amount of times ive sat in OT screaming shoot at this c*nt or watching him play sideways and backwards "safe" passes when i know he has the ability to slide in a sick through ball or stroke the ball into the net.

This is why gibson is such a breath of fresh air. He is not afraid to knock the ball out of his feet and bang it. passing wise he is nowhere near as accomplished as carrick but his mind state is different. He believes he can be that guy who can win games, carrick is happy being a supporting act when the team is playing well but he never steps up and says if you guys arent gonna do the business I AM. hes always looking for someone else when in reality he could be doing it himself. This is what separates him from fab, lamps, gerrard etc and all the other top CMs

i just dont think carrick has improved since he joined united, seems like he lacks the mentality to dominate a midfield and enforce his presence on a team full of stars.

Douglas Costa was going to happen two years ago something to do with his drinking/womanising/driving without a licence stopped the transfer

DC must be friends with Anderson because of the Gremio connection.

C/S on everything which has been posted about DC on this page.

Costa, who left Gremio for Shakhtar Donetsk in a £5m transfer in January 2010, watched Manchester United’s clash with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday from the Old Trafford directors’ box.

The 20-year-old has scored 15 goals in 61 appearances for Shakhtar, who are due to face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next month, and was a £7m target for United in August 2009 but Gremio rejected attempts to take him to Old Trafford.

United had been keen to sign Costa on loan, but Gremio’s demands for £20m for the player, who was at 18 at the time, forced United to abort their attempts to sign him.

Costa was recommended to Sir Alex Ferguson two years ago by United’s Brazil-based South America scout John Toulmin and, with United looking for a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes, Costa’s progress at Shakhtar has prompted the club to step up their interest in the player.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with the Brazil U-20 player, while Manchester City have emerged as an interested party in recent weeks.

Ferguson has been told he has substantial funds to strengthen his squad in the summer, but the United manager is already facing the challenge of replacing goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who is retiring at the end of the season.

United’s hopes of striking a deal for the youngster is unlikely to be straightforward, however, with work permit difficulties envisaged due to the player’s lack of senior international recognition.

Shakhtar, the wealthiest club in Ukraine and emerging as a European force this season, are also well-placed financially to resist any move by United.

Reserves beat Newcastle 2-1.

Obertan scored both. Petrucci with both assists.

Morrison sent off after kicking out at James Perch off the ball, Perch sent off for retaliating.

Morrison will miss both legs of Youth Cup Semi's. Need Cofie and Will Keane even more now.

Does Petrucci not meet the guidelines to play in the youth cup only 19, if your 18 at the start of the season does that count?

Cant believe he has had all that time out come back playing so sick, wish Possebon could have done that

Maybe another reason why Eikrem was allowed to leave

I think the players for the Youth Cup need to be born between 1st September 1992 to 1st September 1995.

Petrucci would have been able to play last year but not this year, glad he's put in some performances on his return though. Hhope he can play well till the end of the season and maybe go on Pre-Season with the full squad.

I expect Tom Lawrence to come in for Morrison if only one of Keane and Cofie are fit. But pure stupidity on Morrison's part. Luckily, Pogba should be available for Youth Cup though.
