Avatar wasn't nominated in the screenplay category, the writing isn't award worthy. I preferred Inglourious Basterds for the category, but The Hurt Locker isn't a bad choice at all.+ I saw From Paris With Love today. It had good potential to be a solid, no-nonsense bald Travolta action flick. But it seemed to go out of its way to make no sense at all, and then reached deep to pull out a spectacularly retarded final third. Comfortably in the 'so-bad-its-funny' bracket

Avatar identifies how alien we are with Africa and how no-one gives a sh*t and it still gets bulldozed. woopty f*ck*ng doo. It's like a five year olds imagination after watching some news story and Ferngully. The writing is bait. The movie didn't make you think. It was straight to dvd worthy.+it's scary to think they will spend 500 mil and make how many bill, but the whole point of the story goes washed like nobody even saw it.

how is hurtlocker the best original screenplay over avatar.
:lol:i love this guyavatar has captured his imaginationits beautiful
lol nah but for real, how can it not be something original, its on an alien world and involves lots of (plausable) futuristic technology and concepts. i dont see too many movies in that context, whilst hurt locker is in war torn iraq and a (modern) war setting is nothing unique at all and it just draws on reality. the only thing unique about it is that it follows a bomb squad, big deal.

  1. Local Hero, not funded by either but it's a Scottish film that was on Film4 last week and you can get on TV quite cheap.
  2. An Education - FANTASTIC, just come out on dvd and Carey Mulligan won a BAFTA for her role (still think she looks better with dark hair than blonde)
  3. The Damned United (co-production with Columbia Pictures) - If you are in to football and know of Brian Clough then you will enjoy this
  4. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - Thought it told a really good story but what a sad way to end.
  5. Eastern Promises (distributed and co-presented by Focus Features)
