Angelo, you're shortsighted. I don't know what you work as but you probably earn more than me. But let's do this again in 5 years and we'll see.If you're a grinder then all power to you. But a degree is valuable.

What part of what I said do you disagree with?
What you said? Nothing. I disagreed with the implication that a degree doesn't have high value. You made it seem like the difference between getting an A and an A* in a GCSE.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying by any means that a degree isn't valuable. I think you might have misinterpreted what I said. But I do know that the majority of people do them for the wrong reasons, get into a job, and coast. And the degrees they come out with are, to be frank, useless, second class degrees. It sounds like snobbery but its true. Its like doing Media Studies at A Level and thinking you will be put above someone for job prospects who didnt...do you see what I mean?If your chosen profession demands academic qualifications, then obviously its a valuable thing to have. But most people are under a misinformed impression that certain jobs either require a degree innately, or that they will be on a higher earning bracket purely because theyve done one.I was in my previous job for 7 months, got a rise after 3, then left. I've been in this job for a year in a couple of weeks. Got a rise after 3 months, then 6 months, and have handed in my notice today.Without starting the whole debate about degrees and their uses etc. Ill say one thing. I personally feel you are either suited to Uni, or you aren't. I think that unless you are studying a specific profession (Law/Medicine etc.), you can utilise connects, push yourself, and achieve equally if not moreso without a 3 year delay and a large debt at the end.But im stubborn, determined, and not a coaster. 99% of the people I work with are not...

Plenty of jobs require degrees but the subject doesn't need to be specific. A 3 A level haver doesn't get promoted into the gradscheme at Deutsche Bank. Doesn't start doing an ACA at PWC. But at the same time there's people that did Psychology and Physiotherapy doing those jobs.I see your main point though. People go to uni just to have degrees and they don't even make sure they're good ones.

100% agree with Angelo.you have to make degrees work for you not the other way round.that's what i've been telling the kids at my youth centre.only do it if it's necessary i.e. law, medicine etc etccause all the time/money you could be wasting on a degree you could be climbing the ladder and working those all important contacts.

@ EksBeginning of this year I was offered Junior Trader position on the trading floor of the Bank of New York in Canary Wharf. (then the crunch came and the position was retracted).Just saying.lol not trying to rebuke your argument though.I agree, cant have any Ashman working in PWC or any sector of finance though. Just trying to emphasize thats its not a rule...its a guideline.

I said gradschemes coz I know people that have had that happen. But they were the kind of people that were always going to succeed. Then there's others like my female friend that didn't finish college and was showing off the other day coz she earns £35K as a secretary now. She really thinks she's made it big but she's just shortsighted. Hence taking me back to my original argument. Hence I can go to bed. Hence goodnight.

extended my banking offers offers till january while i consider other options, focus on my charity, or work with family as a last optionthe whole Uni debate is kinda silly.there no point beating your chest that you're earning more than those who didnt go to uni. is that a general occurrence? for example some of my friends have done or currently work with google. u wont get your foot in the door without a degree, and its THE best company to work in the US. it all depends on your career doesn't it. but just cos u make good money without going to uni doesn't mean that someone who did cannot earn far more than you. i got an offer from Rothschild banking..again u wont get anywhere without a reputable degree, theres many careers that focus more on experience than qualifications, but dont make it out like its a general thing. the best advice is for people to be versatile, quick to learn other things and always have open options.the most important thing for any young person to have no anyways is learning to spend money, and get it working for you.all the 35k talk is fine.. yet the secretary may well be in 55k debt.

Civil Service is top 10 uni dominated. If you didn't go there, don't have HIGH hopes. Still apply though, your application could be the ONE that's different. All the best,Blade
What do you do? Do you have a job? I swear you must volunteer at your uni careers centre and hate it coz all you ever do is doubt other people's aspirations. Some bitter guy.
What I said was right. I don't agree with it, but it's the facts. All the best,Blade.

I wihs I had more UCAS points. The amount of graduate schemes I have to skip past because I'm missing 20/40 points pisses me off differently.
n eks i agree with u. grey fox stop "acting like ur mum raised a f*ck*ng hater"
I'm not a hater, I'm a realist. No one on here has anything I want. I'm just telling you what someone else will at a later date. All the best,Blade.

Hardly a realist if you seem to think that most Civil Servants have a degree because I know A LOT of Civil Servants and they don't even have A-levels. Again Mr. Up North, who do you know in the Civil Service?

I know you're not comparing my short sightedness with a college dropout who works as a secretary and boasts about a 35k salary...Its time*swings back and forth on rope*
Lmao. She's not an idiot, she's very smart but lost interest in school and therefore didn't go to uni. I'm comparing your minds. And... I dunno.Ashman, I think he's referring to Fasttrack, not just any Civil Service job.

Well then he should state that and he should be more clear when he is posting.
