not to mention the DJ's that do a set in raves spesh West end were the biggest raves areone rave I went to...DJ had hes laptop out with some iTunes playlist that he had on shuffle mainly consisting of artists like Fatman scoop, bob sinclar and RhiannaI mean I dont get it, you go to all these raves like funky budha, china whites and penthouse and you always here the same garbage....its like all the DJ's has the same dam playlist as eachother, no originalitynow think about it if all the DJ's just slipped one or two grime tracks into that playlist eventually everyone will call for it like they do for the rest of the garbage they playits these kind of comercial raves where the music needs to be reached a big problem with the music scene is the exposure oh and 1xtra is a joke for the simple fact that the average joe aint gonna know about itChannel U at least gave the scene some exposure it just did it in a very bad way

man like jay-z are performing for the president of the US. and even the soulja boys and co are doing sh*t no one here has ever done. soulja boy is richer than dizee, wiley, and so solid put together..yet he only been out what... 1/2 yearsthe US will use anyone who has some talent to make money out of them. they will let YOU be YOU and use you to make their paper. so as much as grime and these so called artists are also their own worst enemies, its also because there has never been a real urban superstar because there has never been any real interest form the people that can make things happen.dont get sweaty now logan im jus telling things how they are.. do you innit
realist post of 2009 so far.Another reason grime flops is because its stars are too accessible. Anyone can get in contact with their favourite UK street artist, theres no star factor at all.
I don't agree with that last bit, maost of soulja boy's publicity comes from all the youtube vids he puts up of himself, on his xbox, riding quads etc.... And even if what u say is true, you forget that most urban artists from England live in the same city as u, and come from a relatively similar cultural background to ur own, and whilst the odd guy from out of London might boast about his cousin once rolled a spliff for Ghetto most of the time people - even where I live, which is just over an hour from London see MC's as larger than life characters coz there aint no one 'round my way that looks like Dizzee.
i didnt see this waste post. soulja boy's publicity was helped by youtube, but its cos what was being publicised was worth watching for young girls and teens that he became so popular.what would UK grime artists put up on youtube? how to shank in the heart? how to roll up a spliff? how to cuss so and so crew from norf?they have NOTHING to offer thats why they dont do well. if they put up a dance video..they will be deemed homo. if they put up an xbox video they woudl be deemed neeky. you lot have serious identity problems ...soulja boy doesnt. aceesibility is a very dumb excuse.

In a week where the UK 'urban' scene lost long running credible Hip Hop mag Hip Hop Connection, today saw the fall of Channel U. Well, maybe not so much a fall as a little rollover. Many of those who watch Channel U would have been surprised around January '09 where all the videos seemed to be stuck on loop. Yes, many say they have felt like this since 2003!Well, it appears that Channel U, like the rest of us, have been in a little financial difficulty of late and so have dissolved that channel. The new channel you would have been greeted with this week is Channel AKA, playing pretty much the same videos.Something is very strange about all this. Sky channels cost over £1.5million to set up and it is not normal to go live with no launch marketing so we done a little digging. All of the following information is publicly available. Here are some of the facts/rumours in a nutshell:- February 2003 - Channel U launches in UK, owned by VITV, contact email is @phonemedia.co.uk- September 2003 - A number of Mobile Companies, apparently owned by the same people as Phonemedia, are scrutinized for scamming by BBC and Watchdog. (ChannelUexposed.co.uk - "they send out 2 billion spam SMS messages each year.")- June 2005 - Channel U fined £19,000 by Ofcom for a number of offences, including using premium rate telephone services in programmes.- circa. October 2007 - Darren B (one of the most played artists on Channel U in recent years) signed to "new independent label Factor 15 Records" (various sources)- January 2009 - Channel U Owners 'Video Interactive Television PLC' transferred their license to 'Factor 15 Records Ltd' (Ofcom.org.uk)- February 2009 - VITV placed into Creditors’ voluntary liquidation. (London Gazette - 13/02/09)- March 16 2009 - Channel U transforms to AKA on Sky 370.- 'Factor 15 Records' contact email is @phonemedia.co.uk- Current recorded address for 'Factor 15 Records' addressed to 'Jayes and Page Solicitors'The idea of an Urban only TV Channel in UK was great. The execution however had it's faults at the best of times.Say what you want about Channel U though, it is responsible for some of UKs biggest Urban acts. If it didn't directly give them the platform for exposure, it certainly placed the dream on a plate for many aspiring artists who wouldn't yet know the difference between national or local hood stardom. Paying for exposure isn't a new business model and it's fine IF it's transparent.Channel U outlived a few other channels, most of which didn't even get passed the idea stage. Had it already died long before this years troubles? Will an apparent name change save it? Either way, it's the end of an era most of us in UK have experienced in one way or another, in one way or another, it's the end of, it's the end of an era, either way, name change, an era, an era....... Sorry, wanted to sign out in true Channel U fashion!
