Shatterstar
In Obama's case it's significant because it was a white women who raised him and made him the person he is.
Grafter
theyre all black to mewhat pisses me off tho is when mixrace people are one day black and another day 'mixrace'it is always a mistake to get into a discussion about race with a mixrace individual, always a mistake
o-guy
yeah everythings subjective 2bh.some people just like to make it more complicated than it needs to bei actually dn't think its as objective as people make outfor example if u have a white father and a black mother, i see no reason why u should soely identify yurself as black. if sumone who was half black and half white and had a light brown complextion went around refering to themselves strictly as white, the average person would think of they were lost as regards to who they really arealie? this becuz he or she is simply not solely white nor more than he or she is simple solely black. They are both. to claim to just be one is to deny the otheryet why is it STILL (as if to say its still 1950's america) okay to deny that they are also whiteand i see alot of people mistaking the issueits nt about telling people what they can and can't call themselves its, nt about even the lables themselves. Its about what u are and are not and the mentallity behind thinking otherwisei could call myself irish till i'm blue in the face, but i'll always be nigerian
Lieutenant
A lot of it is down to the way people look physically.I mean my girlfriend is just as black as Obama but her skin is a lot lighter yet she has never in her life been referred to as a black person. If she was to become prime minister would not be referred to in the media as 'The first black PM'Ignorance really.
Escapist
whats the difference between a 'lightie' and a mixed race person?lightie should mean a light skinned black person rather than a straight half and half mixhowever, it's been lost in translation me thinksand most mixed race people i know consider themselves black as i do and as alot of white people do; white people only seem to talk of them as mixed race when theres some sort of success attachedi thought the reason why thay are light skinned is because they have white ancestry, meaning they were mixed race no? Ive met mixed race people with darker skin that some 'lighties.' I think with mixed race people being labelled as black or mix race is to do with how they present themselves rather than success per se. Lewis Hamilton's a good example of this. General Mac
Right this race thing has been disputed and debated for decades. I never considered Tiger Woods a Black Man, I've always viewed him as a man who belongs to no major race but a multi-racial man. To brand him black because his cranial is relatively close to that of a Negro is borderline disrespectful and neglective of his other genetics. But then again this mentality of branding anybody who has a hint of black in them as black is more an African American thing derived from years of oppression from the White Supremacist. As for Obama, well to me he's half and half, although his Black genes are more prominent he still is never the less 50% of each race. However, he declares himself a Black man due to social & national conditioning & the implementation of the one drop rule. sh*t even Obamas distant cousin Brad Pitt consideres him Black. It's just how the world is to be honest. It is far much easier to pigeon hole people into major racial groups i.e Black, White, Asian, Oriental etc, having sub racial groups would make it difficult for day to day business. Imagine how long an application form would be if you included all the possible human mixes in the world just to cater for one or two individuals.I myself say I'm full black but in reality my Grandad is Indian. So if I was to be specific I'd say something like I'm mainly Capoid & part Caucasoid. See how unecessary that is.

General Mac
That White Dad Black Mum, Black Dad White Mum observation is plausible but is total nonsense. It all depends which partners genetics are more prominent. I've seen many a mixed race person with vice versa parents and yes some fit your observation but some just do not. Look at Obama, if he spent 2 weeks in Zimbabwe and went back to America, He'd look like a 100% Black person simply because of the sun and his already pronounced nose.Mariah Carey and Wentworth Miller on the other hand. I refuse to call them black. It's even hard to call them mixed race

Drift
basically having 1 visible drop of non-white genes = not white.thats why mixed race people usually get classed as black or whatever ethnicity theyre mixed with. but especially with half blacks half whites because the black community usually accepts them. stupidly. General Mac
Well it has been proven, Black people are most probably the most accepting and welcoming race on the planet. Others go through one racial struggle and identify with black people and feel the need to be apart of something that has dealt with similar circumstances. The one drop rule thing is such a hideous concept. If we where to apply it world wide, that would mean North Africans, Arabs, ALL of South America, Some of South East Asia would be without choice: Black

Look around bro. Look around. Mixed Race people call them selves BlackI've come accross many Moroccans, Philipinos, Sri Lankans that classify themselves as BlackI could go onI mean ask a Black guy to venture into a predominently White social setting and he will most definitely be skeptical about it. However you see many a White guy and girl comfortably socialising in groups of predominently black people, wether it be in clubs, bars, restaurants, at home etc...You get it? It's ofcourse not a WorldWide generalisation, I'm talking Major cities. We all know some tribesman from the heart of the Amazon wouldn't be as welcoming due to whatever cultural protocol
