A classic album isn't necessarily just a collection of good songs. The classics work well as something better than the sum of its parts. It's also about the timing and how it fits into the era in which it was released. Rihanna is like most pop artists today in that modern pop is designed to an almost scientific standard to be as accessible and by extension as disposable as possible. She's not trying to make classics because they don't necessarily appeal to the lowest common denominator
