There are some players whose talents alone are worth the ticket price; the type that have the crowd in thrall, for whom the final whistle is like a death knell. Special players whom you want on the pitch whatever the occasion. That is the way the Real Madrid fans feel about Isco. It was love at first sight when the youngster arrived from Málaga last year: Arroyo de la Miel, the name of his hometown in Andalusia, translates as "honey stream", and Isco's trickery soon had the fans buzzing and whispering sweet nothings.

Far from being a mere fling, Isco's love affair with the Bernabéu faithful has gone from strength to strength. The ovation the supporters gave the 22-year-old when he was taken off towards the end of the 'Clásico' was akin to a marriage proposal, except rather than get down on one knee, they rose to their feet in unison.

Following Gareth Bale's injury, the former Golden Boy saw an opening and has seized his chance. The fans no longer fathom the team without him: they are gagging for the pleasure of watching Isco pluck the ball out of the autumn sky week after week.

Isco's performances have been such that a €91 million player has barely been missed. In a recent MARCA.com poll, almost 82% of respondents said they'd rather have the Spaniard in Real Madrid's starting line-up than Bale, compared to just 18% who voted for the Welshman.
