Arsenal are ready to make a shock £20million move for Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing. The fact Liverpool have not, as yet, completed the recruitment of the England international has prompted the Gunners’ interest.Manager Arsene Wenger seems resigned to losing star midfielder Samir Nasri and plans to waste no time bringing in a big-name replacement.Downing, 26, may not be the first choice among many Arsenal fans but Wenger is determined to sign a proven Premier League player who will fit straight into his starting line-up.Wenger is desperate to end a six-year spell without a trophy and looks to be going against his policy of bringing through the best young talent. The potential arrival of Downing, and an experienced centre-back like Gary Cahill or Chris Samba, would mark a shift in recruitment policy which fans will welcome. Downing could provide the ammunition for another summer target Gervinho, who looks set to complete his move to Arsenal. The England winger seems determined to leave Aston Villa as he wants to join a club challenging for silverware next season.Although Arsenal still have a Champions League qualifier to face, Downing is desperate to play in Europe’s biggest club competition. And with the European Championships taking place next summer, Downing knows his chances of cementing his place in the England side will improve if he is playing regular first-team football with Arsenal.Downing has a wealth of top-flight experience and Wenger is convinced he can make him an even better player if he joins the north London club.Villa boss Alex McLeish has already seen Ashley Young join Manchester United this summer and will be reluctant to see another big name leave. But if Downing has got his heart set on joining a top club, McLeish will find it hard to stop him leaving for the Emirates.Wenger hopes a deal can be finalised before the team jets off on their pre-season tour of Asia next week. And resolving the futures of Cesc Fabregas and Nasri is critical for Wenger.Barcelona remain in pole position to land Fabregas but the clubs have still not agreed a fee. Barca asked for time to review their offer after tabling a £27m bid but have still not substantially increased the amount.Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has flown to Argentina to tie up the deal for Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez, who is playing for Chile in the Copa America.Rosell returns to Spain on Tuesday, when he expects to announce that deals for both Sanchez and Fabregas have been completed.Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Arsenal-transfer-news-Stewart-Downing-a-20million-target-for-Arsenal-as-Liverpool-have-not-yet-completed-his-signing-article755693.html#ixzz1R5J9K7R1Sign up for MirrorFootball's Morning Spy newsletter Register here
Arsene Wenger is lining up a £12million bid for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle as Arsenal finally prepare to splash the cash.Wenger has targeted Doyle for a surprise switch to the Emirates and will test Mick McCarthy’s resolve to keep the Republic of Ireland international this summer.Doyle is high on Arsenal’s hit-list of transfer priorities and Wenger wants him to spearhead a new-look Gunners team that will have a British spine.Gary Cahill and Scott Parker are other targets and Arsenal are ready to firm up their long-standing interest in Doyle with a substantial offer.Wenger is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old’s lung-busting work rate and he first came on the radar during Ireland’s World Cup play-off with France in November 2009. The Gunners boss was commentating for French TV and raved about Doyle’s performance - and is now preparing to offer him the chance to become part of a new Arsenal era nearly 18 months later.Doyle, signed from Reading for a then club record fee of £6.5m in 2009, is halfway through a four-year contract and Wolves are keen to open negotiations over an improved deal.Molineux chairman Steve Morgan said: “I’m sure we’ll have those conversations with Kevin and his agent at the right time.“Kevin has been a fantastic signing for this club and is a really, really key player for us. We’d like to secure his services going forward.”McCarthy has previously insisted it will take an offer of £50m to convince him to part with Doyle and will be determined to fight off Wenger’s interest.Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Arsenal-target-Wolves-striker-Kevin-Doyle-for-a-12million-move-to-the-Emirates-article755880.html#ixzz1R5JPscOKSign up for MirrorFootball's Morning Spy newsletter Register here

I'd kind of prefer Downing to stay another year but I simply wouldn't be able to say no £20m, presuming it'd be reinvested (which it would be).N'Zogbia's about, we've young Marc and hewhoshallnotbecalled 'Big 'Eck' is gonna give Ireland another go.Downing's one of those players you really don't rate until you see him every week. He does his work in the deeper areas, starts the attacks despite being a wide man. His pace is underrated and he's got a good shot on him. Complete faggot though, never makes a tackle, at times he's not direct enough (although that'd probably suit Arsenal) and his decision making is very poor (gets into so many good positions and then f*cks it up).

Benfica are showing interest in Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner who has already been linked with Fulham and Bundesliga duo Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. However, none of the clubs are willing to match the Gunners valuation of £12m leaving the door open for the Portuguese side to launch a new bid.Bendtner's father Thomas says Dortmund are keen but it is understood they believe the 23-year-old to be worth £7million.Sporting Lisbon were also linked but denied making contact yet now their rivals Benfica are weighing up a move to replace Oscar Cardozo who is wanted by Dinamo Kiev.Meanwhile, the Cottagers are showing interest in Barcelona winger Jeffren Suarez but Barca want around £7million for the player who refused to join Udinese last week.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2010902/Benfica-target-Arsenal-striker-Nicklas-Bendtner.html#ixzz1R5KQkKoi
Manchester City are ready to press ahead with a £27million double bid for Arsenal pair Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri this week.City are close to finalising a £7million deal for Clichy and will offer the Gunners the kind of deal that will be difficult to refuse if Nasri, as expected, fails to agree new terms at the Emirates.Meanwhile, Premier League champions Manchester United are still in the hunt as is new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.Nasri, a £15.8m signing from Marseille in 2008, is not due to return to London Colney until Thursday having been granted a few extra days' holiday, as have those other Arsenal players who were involved in international duty at the start of the summer. The Gunners midfielder hinted at a possible exit after admitting he is craving silverware. He said: 'With no titles under your belt, you can't be in list for Ballon D'Or. I came to England for trophies because I've not won anything in my career, apart from an Under 17 European Championship in 2004.'We already earn huge wages. The priority is to make a big career and to win titles. This is more important than everything else.Cesc Fábregas, who has been on holiday in Spain, will return with the bulk of the senior squad on Tuesday, with Barcelona still attempting to complete what they hope will be a £35m transfer back to the club. The Arsenal midfielder told reporters at a football campus in Tordera, Spain: 'If a player is on the market it is because the club does not want him. I have no problems,; following reports that Barcelona have lodged an initial bid of £35million plus add-ons for his signature.Marseille and France midfielder Mathieu Valbuena, 26, has been mentioned as a possible recruit for Wenger should he lose Fabregas and Nasri. His agent Christophe Hutteau said: 'I don't really wish to comment on this matter. All I can say at the moment is that Mathieu Valbuena is still under contract with Marseille. He will resume squad training tomorrow.'Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2010893/Manchester-City-set-finalise-27m-deal-Arsenal-duo-Samir-Nasri-Gael-Clichy.html#ixzz1R5Kl1tZh

Reports out of Germany are increasing in frequency that Nicklas Bendtner, Arsenal’s unsettled striker, will become the subject of an official bid from Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.German radio quoting club sources have indicated that representatives of Bendtner have already met with officials from Hamburg and that a deal is very close to being concluded.Bendtner has not managed to hold down a permanent first team place at The Emirates and for a player that has declared himself one of the world’s better goal scorer the frustration at the lack of first team football has started to take its toll.A fee of £13 Million was mentioned and that is probably enough for Arsenal to agree to the sale of the young Dane.
Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is preparing to spend as much as £20 Million to bring Wolfsburg midfielder Diego to The Emirates this summer. The German media are reporting that Arsenal have moved in to pole position and that the unhappy Diego would jump at the chance to join the North London outfit.bet365 are offering up to £200 in free bets to new customersDiego has not had the best of times at Wolfsburg, he has been repeatedly fined and has expressed his desire to leave the Bundesliga club, he has also stated that he would love to play in the Premiership.Diego would cost approx £20 Million according to the reports, more than Arsenal would be expected to spend, but Diego is a class player and at just 26 years of age still has his best years ahead of him, while at the same time being highly experienced.

7 mil for a experience prem and CL player in this market, no matter how much is fallen off is a joke. Arsenal have even lost their ability to bump teams. Could have easily got 12-15mil. Who the f*ck can you buy for 7 mil? lol

Last year of his contract? Takes the piss though.
It's Man City. They paid 20 mil + for De jong who was in his last year. Villa got over 15 mil for a player on his last year as well. You can't get f*ck all with 7 mil these days.
