No, morals are built into our psyche @ Ant

http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/archive/ldn/2010/may/10051009

does that not imply a moral law giver?

No? Did you even read it?

A baby sees something happening, someone being unkind to the other and someone being nice, and it already shows signs of siding with the nice one, before it can even talk

Who is 'giving' that law? It's almost like a chemical reaction that makes our brains work a certain way

You don't need a God to dictate right from wrong, we're advanced enough as a species to decide this for ourselves.

"I agree with you, the bible says in Romans 2:15 and Jeremiah 31:33 that the law of God is written on our hearts"

where are you getting your information of baby thought processes and chemical reactions in their brains? I'd really like to know

how it works within the human body of a baby is neither here nor there.

you said we're advanced enough to decide whats right or wrong but you post an article about "evidence that suggests babies demonstrate a “rudimentary” moral sense very soon after they are born, indicating that morality may be hardwired into human beings from the very beginning."

Why is the baby siding with nice one the right thing to do?

Smh. . .

Seriously. . .

The white man/powers that be stay winning. If you think otherwise then cool but answer the following questions & I'm sure you'll surcome to the same reality.

1. What language are you speaking/writing in?

2. What food do you eat?

3. What clothes do you wear?

4. Who's goods & services do you use?

5. Who are globally & eonomically in control?

6. Who's chronically indebted to who?

7. Who's religions rule supreme?

And so on & so on.

Right, so what you're saying is that the baby would not have that rudimentary moral compass if it wasn't given by a higher power, correct?

I'm born with a heart and lungs, as are all mammals on this planet, but I don't believe I was given these by God, so why should other psychological concepts like morality, love, hatred etc be designated that way?

The human brain is an exceptionally complex organ, and extremely susceptible to hallucination and delusion, because we are the only species on earth that is truly conscious of its own existence.

I find the notion that morality is dictated by a higher power ludicrous, especially when set examples of this 'morality' are by my personal standards abhorrent.

Good forgives all if you ask for it and repent, in dying he saved our sins

that's all pretty basic stuff

sho' as in Irishman I'm quite disapointed that you have rejected Catholicism and opened your arms to the devil

stop t-rolling bro, u were atheist in the last thread like this.

religion has a lot to answer for in ireland. sectarianism has been a blight on us.

only cos of the Protestant scum, hope they all f*ck*ng burn in hell with ian Paisley the c*nt

i have always supported god in these type of threads tbh

find evidence or say nothing

was this a temporary aberration?

religion is a load of bollocks

i think guys like u hold on to the catlick/sectarian thing cos you see it as part of your national identity and tradition.

The idea that you think atheism is some sort of personal crisis is yet another form of self righteous arrogance

Like we can't really think what we think, we've just strayed from the Lord's path or something

Do you see?

anyone can be in a personal crisis mate, its not reserved to athiests though I am yet to speak to one who can make sense of their beliefs so I am inclined to believe that both are linked

where is this arrogance talk coming from?

I mean im asking you a simple question which bears no ego, and you responded by going on about the 10th dimention and black holes or some sh*t not quite sure I didnt read into it too much.

was that some kind of diversion tactic or something or was you just being a stupid f*ck*ng prick

c/s CP as well

1, No, you didn't ask me a 'simple question' you asked me to provide what I thought was evidence for non existence of God, it's hardly a philosophical question.

2 ,And it's the assumption that a personal crisis inflicts someone who isn't a believer because they're confused etc

3, How can you speak of being humble and asking humble questions when you likened atheism to devil worship? Atheists don't even think the devil exists, is that what you meant by 'indirectly'? Again, arrogance, presuming that you are right and you KNOW that there is a devil

4, This is what I'm saying, I don't pretend like i have all the answers

1, let me rephrase the first point - I agree the question in itself isn’t simple but it is at least a structured question. i.e the answer should be based on the question and its simple in the sense that the question gives you the foundation in which to structure your answer, however you didn’t chose to conform to that and instead go off in some next tangent/being a stupid f*ck*ng prick

2, like I said before being in a crisis is not reserved to having a certain belief (another good diversion tactic making me repeat myself coz you ignored me first time round)

3, I have got my opinions, and my reasons as to why I believe it. Is it arrogance to have an opinion? is it arrogance to air them and debate them?

The only difference between us is at least if poised I will be able to give my own account of why I have these views but again like I said before every time I have given people the opportunity to offer a debate, people chose to ignore it or refuse to offer a constructive argument so meh

Perhaps I should keep my mouth shut or even you can PM swifty to shut down the forum in case we say we believe something that can never be proven?

4, No you don’t and theres nothing wrong with that however you dismiss everyone else’s opinions and beliefs just coz they cant be 'proven' whilst not offering anything from yourself to argue on the contrary.

And also on the subject of what can be proven and what is fact. Can you actually prove anything in life? What you think that because man came up with the periodic table and quantum mechanics that man can prove what religion cannot?

As Socrates - one of the greatest philosophers once said

"I know that I know nothing"

Science is a myth

"Can you actually prove anything in life?"

Yes

Water boils at 100 degrees

Remove a man's heart and he will die

Bodies decompose

Hydrogen and oxygen make water

Science isn't a 'myth', it's the only tool we have to further understand who and where we are, and, I believe, why

I'd just like to say that we are not in control of our lives.

don't you think its funny how we're all meant to be different when we all require the same things to survive.

dont you think its funny how we're all meant to be different when we all shaped the same.

the only reason god made us this way, is because he can control us.

our actions are of his decisions, we pay the price and we'll find out the reason when in heaven.

he shapes the world.

we think we're independant and thinking for our selves making choices of our own accord.

we all have our routes mapped out.

No, thats not what i'm saying. I don't know anything about morality in babies but if that article was true it would be in line with what i believe.

the question is, is it in line with your world view?

I asked you if your morals are subjective based on opinion and social norms. you said no its built into our psyche, which implies that its objective and begs the question, where did these morals come from and why?

Then you went on to say that we're advanced enough to decide what's right or wrong.

which one is it?
