Still using OS5 on my curve 8520

anyone know when there will be a OS6 version around for this?

OS6 won't be coming to the 8520. It just isn't able to run the webkit browser etc.

Anyone looking to get a BB soon should hold out for the Bold Touch, still a rumoured device but strong indications it will be announced soon and released in Summer.

Updated from OS5 to OS6 on my 9700

VERY slick :Y:

I've been looking to do this aswell, which version did you get and how did you do it? and is there and bugs in it?

I must admit it drains your battery quicker. No bugs that I know of so far, it runs very smooth.

Firstly back up all your BB settings using the Blackberry Desktop Manager. After that I backed up all my OS5 servicebooks, just incase, to avoid any browser problems from occuring.

Make sure you do this before anything else. Here are the steps:

http://forums.crackberry.com/f95/updating-os6-want-everything-work-read-first-530398/

Then I used the tutorial below to install the OS version 6.0.0.448 (link below):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv6X8aA_XXE&feature=related

In the video it tells you to select the apps you want to keep, I ticked all of mine off and reinstalled them after I installed OS6 just to avoid any compatibility bugs.

OS Download: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=B86E8D03FE992D1B0E19656875EE557C

Select 9700 from the list and download the 1st option BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.1879 (Multilangauge)

Once done make sure you set your backlight to 0 cos it saves ALOT of battery

Ah i see, i done l this but i upgraded to the 6.0.0.461 the one released after the one you installed. Your right though its much more slick and smoother than OS 5.

Ive not had an bugs, memory leak or nothing yet, so hopefully it will stay like this !

Curve 8900

Out of nowhere the stupid phone wont respond to any of my buttons, even the side buttons and the top buttons. I've wiped the whole phones memory so that there was no os and reinstalled a new os5 on top. Still no button response. The ball scrolls up and down. But cant click in. What to doo? No water damage as far as i kno, i literally up'd a picture on fb it froze, did a battery pull and then buttons stopped working. At the moment its in a bag of rice to get rid of any moisture inside, but what would be the next step?

buying a BB on PAUG

do i get the cheapest 8520, only 120 or do i shell out the 300 on the 9780. Or should i go midrange and get the Curve 3G for 180?

This will be my main phone replacing my broken nokia n900

what do you guys think, not in the know with BB's?

Id say 9780, but if you wanna save on the ££ and avoid mid range, just buy a relatively cheap 9700 Bold and just update the firmware to run OS6, which is essentially the 9780. (bar the minor physical and memory tweaks)
