I think Porchy is making the point that players who score goals when they are needed rather than scoring irrelevant goals are much more important.
If Xavi scored the 90th minute winner to get Spain into the Semi-Finals that would be a greater achievement than Cristiano Ronaldo banging in 3 against Ukraine, 2 against Poland, 1 against England and finishing top scorer.
