Guest M12 Part 2
You can't tbh. Just try as many things as possible once you find something you are passionate enough about stick with it. 1
Fresh
Was going through a little drama in life,, during the second month of Sixth form. I didn't attend for about two weeks and they wouldn't let me back. At which stage, I had a reality check and realised my next few choices were key to the rest of my life. I picked up a college prospectus, close my eyes, said a quick prayer, and acknowledged that by time I put down the book, the path of my life would be chosen.... I opened up and went to the first course... "Accountancy" I said 'bapppp' chucked the book, and went down to the college, enrolled, passed, applied for jobs, got them, 4 years on and I'm up the ladder and I'm continuing to study to become chartered. Also... Somebody I went to sixth form with, who got A-levels, and graduated in BA Accounting & finance, applied for the post below me & didn't get the job lol. The person that did is two ACCA papers behind me and has 9 months finance experience.
Fresh
Then again apparently I wasn't going to get this job, until towards the end of the interview when, I was asked my hobbies and told them I DJ. My interviewer was an aspiring female funky DJ and turns out she'd heard me on radio. It's not what you know....

LemonGuy
I chose a course at uni that had no exams and offered quite a lot of freedom in terms of what you had to actually do/produce. Then 4 months before I finished my degree I wrote letters to 15 companies I liked, got 4 interviews, took a job with the first one where I was offered it on the spot. I enjoy some days and hate others, I would in 5/10 years time like to change profession and do something a bit more active - the desk life isn't really for me. Who knows what's going to happen. MARVELL
This is actually a very good question. its also a pity that the people who need this guidance the most (black, workingclass types) dont get this at all usually. very few of my friends knew what they wanted to do AT UNI STAGE!!! when i mean know what they want to do i mean had an actual life plan. to say you want to be a doctor or a lawyer and study medicine or law is not enough . what type of area, what kind of company, what do you see the areas you want to specialise in, 5 year plan etc.. then you have those who didnt even study these semi guaranteed high paying jobs and did shit like music tech or biz admin for them its just about applying and seeing how things go. you choose your career by either talkign to people who you want to follow their paths or understanding what it is you like about the career you want to do and find out, chart and plan all the steps possible to get there ....in stages. Soca Junkie
I've always wanted a job where I feel I'm making a positive difference in somebody's life. I hate seeing vulnerable people taken for granted... so when one of my mum's friends told me a few stories from her Social Work job, I decided I wanted to be a Social Worker. 8 months left till I qualify, but I'm still in two minds about what sector I want to go into.. I really want to work with Unaccompanied Asylum seeking children or women experiencing domestic violence. Guess you gotta decide what you enjoy doing...

Supernova
Like this thread. I am starting final year of uni on monday... I chose the course because uni was shoved down our throats at 6th form and I wanted to experience uni life Got into this uni through clearing by accident.... I could be in such a better position But I have got locked in...I am doing something I enjoy, even though its over saturated. But I am meeting people that I am undertaking projects with, and getting opportunities for experience all over the shop. This year I am going in and undertaking my career I don't think its something you choose. . . I think its something that chooses you as weird as that sounds. You could take up dance as a hobby meet someone who is looking to start a company and needs skills that you happen to have.

LemonGuy
You should tell whoever runs your website that it doesn't come up on google when you search for digivate 2.0 , it just brings up a bunch of your blog pages (hosted on your main site) where the link has expired so you can't get to the home page directly from it. Yoshie
Going in to last year of uni, haven't got a clue yet tbh. Know of a few people who took my path and are banking / accounting. I'll probably go into something similar. Always hoped I'd be working in finance, heard it's boring as fuck though. Who knows

Dubby
Its called the "silicon roundabout" because its where all of the new promising technology startups are parking themselves (and its a roundabout).
