Contrary to reports in the media yesterday, the chances of Samir Nasri joining Atlético Madrid this summer remain extremely slim, as the player has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join Arsenal following the completion of France’s European Championship campaign.A deal was negotiated with Marseille for Nasri last month, with the Gunners activating his €15 million buy out clause. However, all the formalities were not completed in time, as Samir was involved with the French squad for Euro 2008, which has since seen the deal delayed. The news of Atlético’s apparent interest, was broken by unreliable Spanish paper “Marca“, but shortly after this emerged, Marseille based news wire La Provence, which first broke Arsenal’s interest in Nasri, confirmed he has signed a pre-contract and will move after Euro 2008.The reports claimed Madrid were readying an offer to beat the one which was offered by Arsène Wenger, but as the agreement is already in place with the Gunners, it would set up a difficult legal battle should he try and break off the imminent transfer.Obviously the media are unhappy with Arsenal buying top players, and desperate to try and upset fans by claiming the potential deal could be in doubt. Whilst it is frustrating waiting for the signing to be announced, when your paying top money for a player like we are, it’s important to make sure every little detail is sorted out correctly. That’s why there has been a delay, not because it has fallen through.Samir Nasri and his French side are in action this evening against Robin van Persie’s Holland, needing the win to keep alive their chances in the tournament. Should the Dutch come out winners tonight, then Nasri’s switch to Arsenal could be completed early if France are eliminated.

Arsenal will complete the £10million transfer of Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri at the end of Euro 2008.Nasri, 20, will sign a five-year contract at the Emirates as manager Arsene Wenger looks to bolster a squad that has been weakened by the departure of Mathieu Flamini to AC Milan and may be further hit by the loss of Alexander Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor.Hleb is wanted by both Barcelona and Bayern Munich while AC Milan want Togo striker Adebayor to reform his Arsenal partnership with Flamini.Nasri has been a peripheral figure for France as they have struggled in the so-called Group of Death. A tame draw against Romania was followed by a resounding 4-1 defeat against Holland on Friday night.AdvertisementBut Wenger is sure Nasri has the talent and the strength to thrive in the Premier League and the deal will be tied up once the finals are over.Wenger is also set to move for Germany striker Lucas Podolski if he loses both Hleb and Adebayor..

Arsenal have missed out on highly-rated midfielder Jean Makoun after the Cameroonian today agreed a 4-year contract with Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon. The 25-year-old was tipped to replace departed midfielder Mathieu Flamini who put pen to paper on a big-money deal with AC Milan last month.Makoun though, leaves his beloved Lille to start a ‘fresh new challenge’ with the French Champions.

Arshavin is a class act i think he would settle as wellArsenal target £10m-rated Andrei ArshavinBy Vicki HodgesLast Updated: 9:42am BST 19/06/2008Arsene Wenger has contacted Zenit St Petersburg coach d*ck Advoccat as to the availability of Russian international Andrei Arshavin.Barcelona continue Hleb talksPremier League Transfer Talk Arsenal homepage The talented forward, who can also operate out wide, raised his stock with the all-important second goal as Russia booked their place in the Euro 2008 quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Sweden. Turning on the style: Arshavin impressed for Russia last night The 27-year-old turned in a man-of-the-match showing in Zenit's Uefa Cup final success over Rangers last month and, while the club have qualified for next season's Champions League, Arshavin has confided in friends that he would be interested in a move to England. Arsenal coach Wenger has already noted his interest in the £10 million-rated player but will wait for permission from the club before making his move.Arshavin's strengths are his close-control play, vision and versatility. He can operate as a second striker and could form a lethal partnership with Emmanuel Adebayor at the Emirates next season.Even though Arshavin was suspended for Russia's opening two matches of Euro 2008, Russia coach Guus Hiddink felt he warranted a place in the squad for Austria and Switzerland.advertisementHis selection was duly justified when he capped a fluent performance with a goal in last night's final Group D contest which ensured Russia of their place in the last eight of a major championship for the first time.Hiddink said of Arshavin's performance: "Arshavin is a player who can decide very, very fast where he can create danger. He can turn left, right, he knows where the opponent is, he is a very strong player."There was a lack of match-fitness but that is the reason why I took him in the 23-man squad. He can make a difference." Arshavin could join attacking Samir Nasri in north London. Although an official announcement is not expected until after Euro 2008, it has emerged that the player has agreed a four-year deal. The 20-year-old has spent four seasons with French club Marseille

Arsenal have been refused a bid for Portuguesa de Desportos star Diogo according to the Brazilian directors. The Gunners are not the only ones to have shown their interest in the 21-year-old striker, with Bwin Liga clubs Benfica and Sporting also keen on the South American.Diogo Luis Santo is one of the most promising Brazilian talents, and the attacker is under contract until 2010 with his domestic club. His buy-out clause is set at £16 million and his director claims he has refused to transfer his star to Arsenal as their bid was far short of their demands. The Brazilian will play the next Olympics in China and will look to impress eventual suitors.“We have already refused an offer from Arsenal because it was too low,” Portuguesa sporting director Andre Heleno told Correio Manha.“Until now, the biggest offer made to us came from Italy, with €12 million (£9 million).“We will only start to think of selling him from €15 million (£12 million).“Benfica have approached him via representatives that intend to bring him to Portugal, but there has not been any proposition yet.“We have previously been contacted by Sporting but an offer was not made."

Wenger in January said he wouldn't buy a Russian, but Wenger also said he would buy a defender now said he wouldn't so anything could happen.
Yeah I remember that.Arshavin is absolute quality, too bad we aren't going for him.

clichy is in talks woth romawants to leave to further his international career i hear
Gael Clichy’s agent has distanced his client from a move away from Emirates Stadium and has even confirmed that the player is about to commit his future to the North Londoners. Two Serie A sides have declared their admiration for the talented left back: Roma and Juventus.Giallorossi boss Luciano Spalletti appears to be a fan of the Frenchman, as he has declared that: "Certainly, it would please me a great deal to see Gael Clichy in a Roma shirt. We will have to wait and see what develops."But the defender’s representative has denied being in contact with Francesco Totti’s employers, and he has confirmed Clichy will put pen-to-paper on a new long term deal with The Gunners. While Emmanuel Adebayor is being strongly linked to Barcelona and Milan, and Alexander Hleb to Barca as well, seeing a key player staying at Arsenal would be a relief for the supporters.“The Giallorossi have never knocked at the door, to the contrary,” the agent told Calcio Mercato.“It would be useless for them to take a similar player as [new signing John Arne] Riise, don’t you agree?“Anyway Clichy signs a contract extension with Arsenal today.”
