How are UCAS going to text me today saying I gotta reply to Uni offers by 6pm 5th May when I still have 3 open days to attend, all after that date. How is this supposed to work?
I got this text still, never got around to going to the Nottingham open day but I think I'm put them as my insurance. Hopefully I won't end up going there and I'll get the AAB for Bristol.
Oh so I can accept like 3 of my offers then decline them later after I've attended all open days?(llow me if this is something I should have known, I never cared for this crap in college)

Nah, you accept 2, your main (firm) and your backup (insurance). Main should be higher grades than insurance but I don't know if that's mandatory. If you get the right grades for your firm but wanna go to your insurance just phone them up and ask to be removed (once you have your grades). You only get 2 choices though.Actually come to think of it they do have a new scheme this year, if you get higher grades than your firm choice want and one of your previous 5 choices have higher grades, you can re-apply for their course before clearing starts.

Regarding people lying about revision... I wouldn't call it lying exactly. I don't know if it is just me but in my 3 years of uni I have not revised as much as I should/ have done in the past i.e. A-Levels. University is more than getting the highest grade attainable. I think you just have to strike a balance. When people ask me how much I've done I say not a lot, because in reality it isn't compared to what I did to get my A-Levels so the lost capacity translates to doing f*ck all. But when people say they've done nothing, they must be first years/people who've failed a year/students well on their way to a Desmond.

This is spot on.

Rush to apply to new universities

New universities are reporting an "unprecedented" rise in applications - with warnings that this will mean many applicants being turned away. With the recession putting pressure on the jobs market, record numbers are seeking places in institutions in England and Scotland. The Million+ group of new universities is reporting that applications have risen between 6% and 37%. Universities are warning of a sharp reduction in places through clearing. The findings from the Million+ group suggest that students taking their A-levels this summer could face a hard time when looking for places for the autumn - and that many could miss out. 'Unthinkable' After years of urging a widening of participation in higher education, the government now faces calls for extra funding to meet a surge in demand. Pam Tatlow, head of the Million+ group, called for additional financial support for places and said it would be "unthinkable" if thousands of suitably-qualified applicants could not enter higher education. Universities have already warned of an approaching crunch in places - with funding limits restricting expansion. And there have been wider worries about higher education funding following yesterday's budget. Universities UK and the 1994 Group, representing research-intensive universities, have expressed concern about £400m in savings announced by the DIUS department. Adding to this pressure will be the rise in applications, which seems to be particularly high for new universities - with individual institutions reporting increases of 15%, 25% and 37% on this time last year. Clearing 'non-event' With calls for a better-qualified workforce, Million+ says that the prospect of turning away large numbers of applicants "makes no sense". These new universities are often particularly likely to recruit from the clearing process, after A-level results have been issued. And they warn that the chase for places in clearing "will be even worse than usual with very little available". One of the universities says that clearing this year will be a "non-event". Pam Tatlow says the government "must not lose sight of its long-term, strategic goals or its nerve" over the ambition to get more people into higher education. "These figures are the tip of the iceberg and there will be more applications to come. "It would be unthinkable if thousands of students were unable to improve their chances of future employment by being deprived of the opportunity go to universities which have the capacity to teach them. "The government will have to fund more places unless it wants to add to the unemployment queue or resile on its promise to improve higher level skills." Higher Education Minister David Lammy said the government was "committed to ensuring that people with the talent and potential to succeed have the opportunity to do so, a fact seen in the record numbers of people going to university. "This is at a time when the government has also introduced improved financial support for students while spending well over £7bn a year in higher education, an increase of 23% in real terms since 1997."

more than what u do with ur degreeits which degree u choosebare useless courses out thereseperately i think a lot of degree course structures need a drastic changejus from my own experience, on a engineering course u do a number of modules, but any one of those modules u could specialise your whole career in when u go to work now, if u havnt had the chance of doing experience u end up with general knowledge about this an that, but none of the depth that u actually need to go to work, where as people who do apprentichips (sp) and trainee courses are jus in it from the get go

Wooy. Replied to uni offers yesterday. Two weeks of Easter spent everywhere but near my books. Serious studying awaits. (This is farewell for the next 6 - 8 weeks). Bye all.
IF you're not gone yet...where did you end up applying?
Only interested in going to UCL now. I really should have applied to LSE. Durham was lovely, but too far.

C/SI think alot of people that have graduated would have saved themselves alot of money and heartache post university if they took a little more time to analyse what they can do with their life and what is available to them outside of uni.I'm speaking from a personal standpoint. Knowing what I know now, I definately wouldn't have come uni. Either that, or I would have spent an extra year in college like I should have and gone on to study Maths/Economics like I wanted to originally at A-Level and then probably one of the two subjects at degree level. No one to blame but myself for making the leap, but I still think there should be more advice around aside from a college pressuring you to apply and african parents eager to for you to get into uni because they want to brag to friends about their child is in higher education. But hey, if you enjoy what you are doing, all the best to you. My experience hasn't been that good, and I actually am at the point where I wish I didn't come to uni.

im so stressed, coursework/revision is starting to pile the pressure and i need to get AAB as well. the news was saying how 40,000 more people have applied for uni this year with the government only subsiding for 10,000 meaning that a lot of less extra places in clearing in august. that is scary me, why so many ppl applying for uni. results day is gonna be crazy.
