Zenit St Petersburg have claimed they are in discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a deal for Russia star Andrei Arshavin, but a disagreement over a valuation for the playmaker has led to a stalemate at present.Arshavin has been the name on everyone’s lips during the summer transfer window and although he has made clear his preference is to join Barcelona, a move to England certainly looks possible for the 27-year-old.Chelsea and Arsenal were reported to be leading the chase for the player who impressed so vividly at Euro 2008 but the interest from the two Champions League contenders has never been formally confirmed.Zenit official Konstantin Sarsaniya has now revealed that Tottenham have been in contact though, with Juande Ramos looking to prepare for the possible departures of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.“With Tottenham we have contacts,” Sarsaniya told the Russian press.“This English club is really interested in acquiring Andrei but, as I understand, €27 million (£21.5 million) is too high a price for them.“For Spurs it is unacceptable. Tottenham are ready to pay in the region of €20 million (£15.9 million) for Arshavin.”However, Sarsaniya has denied speculation linking Manchester City with the playmaker, stating: “I have not heard of this.”Tottenham have been reported to hold an interest in Arshavin in the English press in recent days but a possible move to White Hart Lane was first mooted as long ago as January by his agent Pavel Andreev.

Think if Arshavin does arrive, Modric will be playing a deeper role. Bent will never be first choice *Fingers cross*

Yep, just read it on the only reliable site on the net, Spurs Odyssey -

Spurs Odyssey can announce that as has been reported Spurs and Zenit St. Petersburg have agreed a fee for ace Russian striker/creator Andrei Arshavin. It is understood that the player is considering the move at the present time, but still needs to be convinced about coming to Spurs. It also looks as if the deal to bring Argentinean striker Diego Milito from Real Zaragoza will succeed, with a fee in the region of 12 million Euros being suggested. Milito is 1.79m tall and can play anywhere across the attack. He recently turned 29, and has played for his country 14 times scoring 4 goals, although three of these came in his first 4 International matches in 2003. Milito's last cap was in a friendly in Norway in August last year. Milito scored 17 goals for his club last season - 6 of them from the penalty spot. However, he did only score once in his last 15 games. Maybe he will be Spurs' third striker behind Arshavin and Darren Bent. Arshavin shone of course in Euro 2008, after serving his two match International suspension, scoring in his first two games against Sweden and The Netherlands. He has scored 12 International goals in 37 games. Arshavin is already back in league action for his club who are currently only 11th in the league they won last year. Arshavin has scored 48 league goals in 221 league games for Zenit since 1998. He is a one club man, and now 27 years old. Arshavin's International strike partner Pavlyuchenko has also been a Spurs target, but his future remains to be resolved.

For the good of Tottenham Hotspurs football club, we need to sign Arshavin. It does not matter if he flops, does not matter if he's overtated/overpriced. Its the fact that he's a player the whole of europe is looking at. Similar to Luka Modric, bringing him in only helps us progress as more and more players will be willing to join us. f*ck Milito though. Swear is he even quick enough for this league? Would like a person with a bit of pace, but i suppose thats bent :D. Haven't seen his hold up play/finishing so can't really comment.

Guest Eduardo

Only reason why you've even got a chance of signing him is because you're the only team stupid enough to pay his big transfer fee and enormous wages.

Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin claims he has already made a final decision on his future as speculation mounts that Tottenham are launching a firm bid for his services. The impish Russia international enjoyed a fantastic Euro 2008 when returning from suspension to inspire his team-mates and rubber-stamp his growing reputation. After helping guide Zenit to the Uefa Cup, he is looking for a new challenge despite earning a substantial salary in his homeland.Arshavin's priority has always been to join Barcelona, and he has even been photographed in the Catalan press in the famous red and blue stripes. However, Barca will not meet Zenit's asking price and, after earlier links with Ar5ena1 and Chelsea fizzled out, Spurs and Fiorentina are the latest names in the frame. When asked directly about those two clubs, he told Sport Express ahead of the match with CSKA Moscow: "I have already taken a final decision. It only remains to finalise it with the club management."But, excuse me, I cannot yet [clarify the situation about my exit]."Spurs have cash to spend after selling Robbie Keane to Liverpool and Arshavin would be an ideal replacement for the Republic of Ireland captain.Arshavin's future has been one of the transfer sagas of the summer but it would appear as though the CSKA clash could be his last for Zenit with more developments expected before the weekend.

He wants to come

Andrei Arshavin's agent has confirmed Tottenham are in talks to sign the Russian star, but says a deal is still a way off. Tottenham are lining up a move for Arshavin as they look to bolster their squad following the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool.Arshavin, who impressed at Euro 2008 with Russia, is keen on a move away from Zenit St Petersburg as he seeks a new challenge.A number of top clubs including Barcelona and Arsenal have been linked with the skilful playmaker, but Tottenham are hoping to lure him to White Hart Lane. Arshavin's agent representative Dennis Lachter has confirmed Tottenham have held talks with Zenit about signing the 27-year-old and that the player would be interested in a move to North London."At this point there is some talks with Tottenham, but nothing complete because of the high fee Zenit want for Andrei," Lachter told skysports.com."The gap is huge between the two clubs as Zenit are looking a lot of money for Andrei."Juande Ramos very much wants to sign Andrei as he is his number one target and Daniel Levy is doing everthing to make the deal, but it is difficult to agree a fee with Zenit."Ramos has been following Andrei from his time in charge of Sevilla and also from last season's Uefa Cup run when Andrei was the outstanding player in the tournament."Andrei has made it known he wants to leave Zenit and the player has made his decision he would like to go to Tottenham."He likes the way Tottenham play football and he is a big admirer of Ramos."
